I'm getting ready for a new rig and would like to know who is using what for their .223 with a 1:8 twist.

So far I've found these to be interesting speck wise.

Remington "Express" 69 BTHP Match
Federal "PREMIUM GOLD MEDAL" 69 Sierra MatchKing BTHP
Federal "PREMIUM GOLD MEDAL" 77 Sierra MatchKing BTHP
Federal "Golden Eagle" 62 Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail
Hornady 75 GR BTHP/MATCH
Hornady 75 GR TAP - FPD

Price wise the Golden Eagle is very inexpensive though.

Thoughts please.

target shooting or "beastie" shooting? 55-62 gr for "beasties"....for more stability in long range 700-1000 yards...use the heavier 75 gr...I never found much difference in manufacturer.

I just shot my new Tikka Tactical last night, the Federal Premium 52g SMK were pretty good, I got one group of five into about 3/4 inch, and the GMM 69 shot three touching with a couple of flyers, just over an inch.

Seems like American Eagle 55g FMJ shoot pretty good out of this rifle.

Most of my handloads that were doing well in the Remington 700P didn't do so well in the Tikka. My previously best load of 69SMK with 26g Varget shot seven rounds into about 1.5 inches.

For the full saga of why I'm now shooting the Tikka, read this:

The salesman wanted me to break it in by shooting one, cleaning, repeat for first 10 rounds, then shoot two & clean for 20 rounds, then shoot 5 & clean for another 20. I just shot 5 & cleaned for about 25 rounds, then 10 & cleaned for another 30 or so, not enough daylight at the range to do more. Maybe it helps, I don't know. I usually don't bother.

If all you want to do is have some fun, plink and make some noise, test the least expensive ammo and enjoy. Win 45gr varmint in white box comes with many satisfied shooters. A nice load out to 300yds.

If going further, reload. Match factory ammo is expensive and you will need to do alot of testing to find something your rig likes.
