Cherios or Corn Flakes? Ford or Chev? They're both excellent barrels. I've never heard of either of those companies making a bad barrel.

Bartlein's are also very nice, nothing but good things.

Rock Creek is distributed by Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply. He likely has a good supply in stock.

Krieger is distributed by Adams Lake Rifle Barrels (he goes by "Obtunded" on the site). He may also have something in stock.

If your having a hard time deciding, flip a coin. You really can't go wrong either way.

If you go Rock Creek for your first pick, shoot it out then re-barrel with a Krieger. Then you can say you've tried both.:D

If all else fails, and your in a dead-lock, the only reasobable thing I can think if is to get yourself another Remington action and build two rifles, one with the Krieger and one with the Rock Creek:dancingbanana: Problem solved,,, AND,,, you can do side by side comparisons:D Or, you could build a Rock Creek, Krieger switch barrel, that would have a very high "cool factor" as well.

Barrel choice

I've used three barrels now from "Brux barrels" more than pleased with the results. Have another batch on order. Cut rifled, any twist, any contour, 30" lengths without extra charge!

Either Rock or Krieger will deliver the same results all things being equal.
I prefer the Rock Creek barrel for some calibers, Kriegers for others. In your case it would be a coin toss.
The 5R has less chance of cutting jackets due to the radius of the cut on the rifling and may clean slightly eaiser.
The Kriegers are well known for being top notch barrels and we have had great success with them as well.
Sorry I have no concrete "this is the reason 1 is better" I don't think that between the 2 there exists enough difference to make any real difference.
I would think that supply would be the biggest dictator. Rocks take about 3 months for me to get in, I think the same is what Adams Lake is experienceing with Krieger. If there is a Krieger available in the twist and contour you want in a shorter time span, that would sway me.

Rick is right. Both are excellent and as long as you have a competent plumber doing the install you can expect superb results.

FWIW, I have 6.5's in stock

...and they're breaking US federal law in doing so. Flaunt that in front of the State Department at your peril, or at least pay C.O.D.

I have not used a Kreiger but have a Rock 22" 5R M24 Contour on a Rem 700 action and it is a one holer if I do my part...more often than not the rifle outshoots me but I am working on it. Have heard nothing but good things about Kreiger barrels as well. Mike R. at Tac Ops uses Kreiger barrels on his rifles and I have trained with guys who are issued Mike's rifles and couldn't be happier with them.

I don't get it, faster how? Twist rate, delivery time? Barrels are not supposed to move so I can't see 1 being any faster when thrown than another.
Schneider barrels ARE decent quality for sure, but faster:confused:

Velocity. There are a number of reasons, an obvious one being differences in the land and grove diameter produce different pressures.

On this site, most of the discussion seems to be focused on group size. Over on Snipers Hide, you have more of a dedicated long range crowd. They tend to focus on things like velocity a lot more. There are extensive threads about this topic. Just look at the load data people are posting and you'll see an obvious trends.

Its one of the things I read a lot about before building my latest rifle. I spoke to several well know custom builders such as George Gardner of G.A. Precision and Terry Cross of KWM. These guys both build a ton of long range rifles and both confirmed the Schneider barrels tend to produce velocities a little higher than other brands. All kinds of other well known custom builders, writers and shooters post on SH too, including David Tubb. He also mentioned that as a reason for choosing the Schneider barrel for his Tubb 2000 rifle, I believe.

While I was trying to decide on a barrel, one of the guys at the local range showed up with a 308 GAP rifle that has a 20" Schneider barrel that was launching 175gr SMK at over 2750fps... that pretty much sold me on it. I just got my rifle back from GAP with a new 26" Schneider on it. I'll let you know if it lives up to the expectation.

We have built 9, 308s in the last 3 months that are virtually identical.
Each has a Rock Creek barrel, all are getting plus 2800 fps out of 22" barrels while shooting 175 gr SMKs and no pressure signs. We have run them slightly hotter but brass life is shortened. My own personal rifle in this configuration spits 175 gr SMKs at 2865 and all inside under 1/4 moa, so I guess we did something right.

Personally I am not sold that a certain barrel will generate more or less velocity, chamber dimensions, however can and do.

The Rock Creek is mentioned as a fast one too...

The 2750fps+ wasn't from a hot load, this guy doesn't push anything past whats listed in the manuals.
