What bird is this?

This maybe isn’t the right forum, but I figured there’s more upland hunters here than anywhere else.

Any idea what these are? This is on the Alberta prairie, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seem them way up north too.

Galliforme for sure, pics are terrible but size and color and habits say maybe sharptail
What’s the closest town there, is it in sharptail range?

Yup. I’m guessing that one in your pic is a male? I saw one like that, but the others seemed more white or grey on their bellies. I was just watching them for a bit and their tail was definitley up.
