im new to reloading but i first want to read a few books and learn a lot before i start up. so whats the best book that you would all recommend. lee 49th edition, hornady? also im looking at a hornady setup, should i start with progressive or single stage. i haven't a clue about the model. i will be starting to reload 9mm and maybe .44 mag or 454 casull or something like those, but for sure the 9mm.
so what do you all recommend for a new guy.im looking to pump out a lot of rounds but i don't want to blow my self up at the same time because im a noon and im trying to use a progressive. from what Ive read on this site progressives are not the best for noobs but maybe im wrong.

thanks in advance

Any good reloading manual will get you started on the right path. Hornady, Lyman, Sierra and Speer are good. The ABC's of reloading is good too. There is nothing wrong with starting with a progressive. I myself started with a Dillon 550, which is an excellent press. The main thing, though, is to read the manual and make sure you completely understand how everything works. If you are unclear about a step, take your time and get it right. In reloading, patience truly is a virtue. Good luck.

This is my experience only, many others will chime in.

The first book I bought was the ABC's of reloading, can't remember the author but by now it's been re-done by another guy anyway. It does not have any reload recipes but explains all aspects from pistol to rifle including casting. It is an introduction to newbies.

I also bought/buy books from the major mfrs like Sierra, Hornady,Speer, Lyman etc. as well as look online from powder mfrs for their load data. The books can be pricey ($50.00 is average) and I may not use all the data right away, but when I do change components I have a good base.

All mfrs will have some basic data on their web sites but I would use this in conjunction with the different books.

So after being long winded, I will again recommend that you start with the ABC's of reloading.

I have the 3rd edition of the ABC's, by Dean A. Grennell. Not only is it an essential book, but the man can write.

Order ABC's of Reloading from Amazon.com.

If you start with the Hornady L&L, you'll find its an excellent press. Like all AP's however, there is a lot going on each time you pull the handle. You'll want to follow the setup instructions closely and test each die in its station individually before going for the gusto.

Even if its one of those cheap little $39.00 Lee units offered at Wholesale Sports, a single stage press would be a big help to you for setting up your dies and learning their function. You can do this during the months you'll wait for your Hornady L&L to arrive,, they're popular so its backlog city I'm afraid.

ABC of Reloading is what you need to learn how to reload and how to set up your reloading bench. I is not a source of reloading data but no book (best to my knowledge) does both. What you learn from ABC of Reloading will let you make your set up based on any single line of reloading equipment or a mix of them. And what is the most important you will know the safety aspect of reloading.
For reloading data you may buy any of the manuals from bullet or powder makers or several of them. However new powders, bullets and cartridges are developed every year and those manuals need updating. I used to buy them but not any more. There is such a wealth of reloading info on the internet that IMHO you don't need them.
I have the 6th edition of ABC of Reloading. I don't need it any longer. It's like new. If you are interested PM me.
