What breaks on the AR15? Range Toolbox Replacement parts.

I have only ever had two broken parts on my C7;

I was once issued a rifle with a bent ejection port cover, no biggie, and

I somehow managed to bend the cocking handle enough that it wouldn't move freely while cocking. Never attempted to fire it before sending it back to the techs.

And spare parts for an AR-15? For the average shooter/plinker or even competition shooter, having to keep alot of spare parts for a MILITARY rifle is ridiculous. Not saying that an AR-15 shooter shouldn't keep spare parts, I'm simply more blown away by the fact that there are that many people out there willing to use the AR-15 in competitions.

Every rifle has it's good and bad points.

I absolutely hate the cocking handle on an AR15 type rifle and the magazine/feeding issues can drive you mad in the middle of a timed event. Both of these issues can be mitigated through practice and being familiar with the idiosyncracies of the firearm, and the magazine issues have as much to do with our ridiculous magazine laws as the firearm itself.

On the plus side, the rifle is accurate, capable of almost endless configuration changes, and has great ergonomics (aside from that @#$^& cocking handle!). There are a ton of aftermarket goodies available and other fancy stuff to make your rifle into the firearm equivalent of the Swiss Army knife or some monstrous Dali-esque work of surrealism. I guess the last point isn't necessarily positive, but that judgement does depend on the eye of the beholder.

All in all, the AR15 is the current standard in every match I've run due to the reasons above, its common availability and because the US and Canadian armed forces use them ... IMHO at least.

What breaks on an AR depends directly on what you are doing with it. Are you standing in front of your mirror in your underwear taking snap shots for your "Facebook" page or actually shooting it regularly in competitions and having a ball.

I carry a spare complete Colt bolt, a complete Armalite lower parts kit including parts for the bolt, a few firing pins and reliable magazines. ;)

This kit addresses all my AR breakage concerns. Aside from these, I think another rifle could be your cure.

Regards.
