Figured this was the "best" forum for my query.

Reloading for a friends .260 Rem , factory 9" twist.

Want a hunting round but concerned about bullet weight for this as I have not used it before. He wants the round for use on big game.

I am wanting to try 125 gr partitions and 130 Sciroccos.

Are the 130's gonna be getting too heavy for that rate of twist or is it good to go?

I believe it has more to do with length than weight.Berger recommends a 1 in 8" twist for their 130gr,yet Cooper uses the Sierra 142gr Matchking to test their factory 260 rifles which use a 1 in 9" twist rate.I may try the 130gr Berger with my own 260 Cooper.I would think that either bullet that you mention would work in a 1 in 9" twist.

SJ is entirely correct. Stability is determined by length, as as almost all hunting bullets are significantly shorter than a 140 VLD, you can easily shoot just about 6.5 hunting bullet you can find.

FYI, a true 9" twist seems to be fine in a 260 with 140 and 142 bullets anyway.
