My question is which bypod is best & why. I would be using from a Bench rest, truck bed & outside ground. In some case for both a Target rifle & AR target rifle.

There are other threads that were started fairly recently on this topic. The older versapods were a tad sloppy, but their new stuff is pretty damn nice. I'm not sure if it's mil-spec or not, but it'll stand up to pretty much anything a canadian hunter can do to it.

I've had both versa-pods and harris bipods. I much prefer the versa-pod. It's much more sleek and I like how the springs make the legs go out, not in (like on the harris bipod).

We carry both Harris and Versa-pod. I prefer Harris and we will be clearing out our Versa-pod units if you decide you like them better.

Currently for heavy duty use, I am looking for a suitable alternative. IMO, for precision shooting with heavy rifles ~+14lbs there must be a better option.

Keep in mind that seldom is one item excellent for everything. For general use, the Harris is hard to beat and is a long time proven unit well know in the shooting world.

I would recommend getting the swivel feature if you planning on shooting it prone on varying terrain.

I like both Harris & VersaPod, by trial & error, I would say for lighter tact drivers like an LTR, go with Harris...Heavier rigs goes well with Versa-Pod, it takes the weight....

LG - I just couldn't see myself using those stabbing sticks with my 18lb rifle... Where the heck do you buy those?

Not a clue, I made mine from ash , padded leather upper. It worked pretty slick in a ground blind the other day, used it to hold up the center portion of mesh netting. I was sitting in a fold up chair, lay the gun down in the V , rock solid , perfect height, relax with a coffee in the holder on the chair, enjoy the day. :D

From these replies it appears that the steel mil-spec Parker Hale bi-pod has gone out of vogue. Still, I spent the cash, and that's what's on my target rifle, and for that much money I will damn well be happy with it. I have a Harris on my M-7 .243, but the forearm is short enough that it's a nuisance to shoot with a conventional hold, without removing it. In this case a light weight Versa with the hand stop would of been a better choice, or better yet Levi's shooting sticks.

Isn't the Versapod an inferior copy of the Parker Hale?

Where could one find a Parker Hale and how much would he be expected to pay?

I like the harris... with index notches... shortest one they make... sorry I don't have a # for ya.
Whatever you buy, make sure it can 'CANT'.

I have used the Harris before for bunch shooting and do like it. The things I'm unsure of is the fact the Versa-pod has a lot of movement, Also would it not be more prone to canting? but would the Versa-Pod be better if you had to shoot a moving target side to side in a prone hunting position?

All I've got is Harris... so i can't compare the two...
..."cant" being flopping side to side ie tip clockwise/counter clockwise, not left / right in a field of fire type motion. Harris don't do that at all, unsure of any that do actually... swivel of that sort would make for a pretty bulky package? Does anyones bipods 'swing' that way? They all have a small amound of 'give' but don't think any are engineered for it.

I'm a Harris kinda guy, they are cheaper than a Versapod. I'm a cheap bastard.

The Harris bipods (got 3 of them) are lighter since I'm not getting younger carrying my .223 Remmy M700 SPS Earth Pig gitter around the groundhog fields.

Cheers,
Barney

The Versa-pod is an aluminum copy of the Parker Hale bipod. Parker Hale also manufactures an aluminum version. My steel PH cost just shy of $500.00 when I bought it. A pal of mine has the Versa, and laid side by side you'ld be hard pressed to tell tem apart - that is until you picked them up.
