If a remington case has been annealed, what percentage can it be oversized without suffering premature neck cracking in future loadings. What I mean is,a 30/06 can be blown up to 358...When thats done is that case as strong as a factory 358,or will it fail in fewer loadings?. If that .050 can be done at that range can 375 be blown out to 458 because of having a bigger circumference? My guess is yes, but I'm wondering who has actually done it, how many loads they got out of it as compared to pre sized factory?

That's a question without a definitive answer.

The area expanded will be thinner than before, so all things being equal, it will be weaker than a thicker neck, and thus more vulnerable to cracking. That could mean 20 firings instead of 25 if the neck is annealed, loads are moderate, and chamber neck clearance is tight, or 3 instead of five if no annealing, hot loads and generous neck clearance.

I have not blown 375 out to 458, but have done 348 to 430. Depends on the hardness of the brass, and I found annealing was required, otherwise it would split.

You will also have less neck tension for bullet retention.

The only way to find out is to do it.

I can donate some RP 30/06 cases to the cause. Call me if you want some.

RePete.

I usually use .30-06 brass to make .35 Whelen cases and very rarely have a neck split. I usually load the cases 6-7 times then chuck them.

I've even necked up .270 Win to .35 Whelen with no problems. Just use lots of lube and a tapered expander.

Now I'm going to assume your annealing on that one. Thats actually more stretch than I'm looking for going from 370 to 458 however I am going to be operating at magnum pressures afterward which probably effects neck pull more

neck-sizing only will greatly reduce the amount of 'work' being done to the shoulder. You can probably neck-size only for 5 or more loadings, at which point you can toss the case, or FL-size it and then proceed to neck-only size for subsequent loadings.
