See them all the time in the movies, especially old westerns, what calibre could the average adult man shoot one handed without breaking or spraining a wrist? Like a .30 carbine, or 7.62x25? A 200 pond man, or does body weight even affect that?

I've shot 357mag one handed. I'm sure people have shot way hotter than that. Dudes on YouTube double-wield Desert Eagles...

Largest caliber handgun I have is a .44 mag, and with over the shelf ammo I can shoot one handed no prob. However, if hand loaded hot, it can be tough with both hands

The truth is that with proper technique, if you can hold it decently still with one hand, you should be able to shoot it with one hand. I used to shoot my Remington 870 with one hand at arms length, and a very hot-loaded .44 mag Bisley was no problem one-handed either. Once you know how to not fight the gun, it isn't really that tricky. BTW, what's up with round number 4 out if the gun in his right hand? No flame - I want to say squib, but it sounds about the same as the others.

Every time I film a shoot, there are always a few with no flash, either the round or the flash was too fast for the camera to pickup (video is individual frames).

My grandpa was old school and said the only time you should use two hands to shoot a pistol is when you can't hold it up with one. ie, Colt Walker. Everything else SHOULD be one handed. I don't follow that discipline since I shoot IDPA/IPSC at club nights. Biggest Ive one handed was full power .357. Bullseye shooting is fun.

The Walker was the most powerful production revolver from 1847 until the introduction of the .357 magnum in the early 1930's, only 1100 were made. The more refined but less powerful Dragoon's were produced in large quantity's
The recoil on my reproduction Walker is mild due to the weight of the gun (4 1/2 pounds) but it is very loud and surprisingly accurate and it is a lot of fun to shoot.
Here is a picture of the massive 1847 Walker .44 cal. with a 9 inch barrel (on top) and a 1848 Baby Dragoon .31 cal. on the bottom.

Depends on whether you're a wimpy paper pusher or actually do work for a living, I suppose. I seem to see a lot of YouTube vids of people (lots of women getting clocked in the forehead) having WAY too much muzzle flip for the size of gun they're shooting. Are they weak-wristed or just not prepared for it? I don't know.

I can fire anything I own one handed, right or left, no problem. I shoot .45ACP, 7.62x25, .357Mag and 9mm. Judging by the recoil of those I'm sure I'd have no problems with bigger bore stuff. There would certainly not be any "broken or sprained wrists". :D That's crazy! Just how soft are you? :D Bones made of chalk?

No, I only shot a few handguns a few times, out on the range, I would have tried it one handed but did not want to risk getting kicked out

Wow, tell us what range, so we can all avoid going there. I've heard of silly rules (usually in Ont) but that one takes the cake.

Many years ago, I got my niece and nephew out shooting. Started light, worked up in the power. At the end of the day, my niece (all 75lbs with a tire chain in her pocket :p) was cranking off rounds out of my .357 mag with no problems. It's not you gender or weight, it's your technique and how you were taught.

For the record, the comp and the weight of my .460V does work wonders for taming recoil. I would honestly be hesitant to shoot this thing one handed.

It'd be fun to shoot, maybe not one handed.
