What can I shoot out of my older Rem 1100?

This is my first post since registering several months ago and I hope you guys can help me with some questions. I have an older Remington 1100 2 3/4 inch with fixed modified choke. Is it safe to shoot steel from this barrel? I assume it's Ok to shoot 2 3/4 inch lead magnums from it??? If I decide to sell it what would be a reasonable amount to expect for it?
 
Many people will tell you your d!ck will fall off if you shoot steel in it.

Realistically, with a modified (or more open) choke, it should be fine. I've never seen one get damaged, yet "brother's sister-in-law's cousin" stories persist. Me, I think the manufacturers were keen to sell new guns and may have spread myths to do so.
 
You can shoot ANY 2 3/4" 12 gauge ammunition including steel up to BBB. I doubt steel any larger than that would have enough pellets in a 2 3/4" load to be effective any ways. 1 1/2 oz. lead magnums are no problem either as long as they are 2 3/4". I speak from experience as I shoot a Modified choked 1100 too.

Myself, I'd stay away from anything larger than steel BB. I've seen the damage BBB can do to a forcing cone. But at least that barrel had no choke whatsoever to worry about. There would be an awful lot of stress on a MOD choke with big steel pellets. Especially at some of the big velocities they can reach now.

I would have to agree. When steel shot first came out we all were still using 1100's and lets just say belled some barrels with the larger shot sizes over BB
That being said other than it looked ugly they still seemed to pattern ok
Only remember one splitting but that was a full choke gun
