What case do you use for your AR?

Assuming my new one comes in a cardboard box, not a case, whenever it gets here.

Storage regs being what they are, I could really use a case for it.

Just curious as to what other people have for AR cases that they're happy with (and possibly where they got them too).

Cheers!

I have a large safe at home for my stuff, so each new gun I get just goes right in there. I got 2 rifle cases, and one large pistol case for transport back and forth to the range. Maybe you should get a safe, cause as your collection grows you will get over run with cases and trigger locks.

If you are sure that you'll only have one or two long guns and a couple of pistols, invest in a nice pelican case that you can use for everything including travel.

RE: STORAGE> Would you really trust your AR in a case if you were away from home for say, a two week vacation?

It's kinda like buying a Ferrari and only parking it on the street.

Someday you need to get a safe. Bolt it to the floor/wall.

RE: Transport, the range trip kind (not the traveling to a competition/road trip) the 5.11 Tactical series serves me well. And soft bags can be stuffed, hard ones can not.

I use pelican cases for all my guns!

Two of my AR's:

18" SPR in Pelican 1700:

10.5" in Pelican 1600 on lower level, with the upper level used for 2 or more handguns with 15 mags:

Very nice setup!

I also have a Pelican 1700, but with no foam. With my AR on the way, I am now looking to do what you have done with the custom cut foam. My question is where did you get your foam insert, and how did you cut it so well?

That's really nice. I use pelican for my rifles, but I haven't cut out the foam though. I have so many different guns that it would be a nightmare to cut out foam for each set up.

pelican sells their cases with or without foam, and they also sell replacement foam. optimal cases and lights is who i deal with for pelican and they could hook you up (very reasonable prices compared to others).

to cut it, i laid out the pieces on top of the middle insert (two foam layers in the bottom, one on top), and marked the corners with toothpicks and tied dental floss between them. I then used a straight-edge kitchen knife and cut along the string.

1700 cases are straight foam that needs to be cut, the 1600 and most others are pick'n'pluck where you just have to remove the appropriate size for the items you'll be using.

cheers!
