What chokes are best for shootign IPSC Shotgun

I used a 870 and 20" barrel with rifle sights and fixed IC choke for my first 4 shotgun matches. I found that I did well with any light steel placed as far as 10-12 yards (with 7.5 birdshot). Anything further would start to present challenges for me as the pattern would be too wide for further targets. My last match had some heavy steel which I had trouble with using 7.5 shot, but I am certain I would have been able to knock down with a tighter choke like a modified.
I have since switched to a Nova and a modified choke. I hope better match results await.

Seriously though, I like Light Modified as a general use choke.
But that's what I settled on based on the way my gun patterns with the loads I intend to use.
For a good chunk of the stages I'll see, it is tight enough to knock down steel at distance, but open enough to be semi-quick on clays where you don't need to be as precise with your shot placement.
Every stage will be different and you have to choke accordingly.
If you have a Imp Cyl, mod and full, you should be good for everything as long as you know your patterns at varying distances.
Penalty targets will come into play and you need to know that you won't hit a penalty sitting beside a shoot target.
Otherwise you have to aim slightly off target, or set up before the stage with the right choke to minimize the chance of hitting the penalty
Oh, and if you are going to order Briley extended chokes, make sure you don't get the ported chokes unless you intend to shoot in open.

I use a briley extended knurled choke....improved for almost all my shooting. I do have full and mod if the situation calls for it.

I haven't seen anywhere in the rules that you can't.
It states competitor equipment must be the same and that includes barrel, but removable chokes are not specifically mentioned.
Also
5.2.8 Equipment (including slings regardless of whether they can also carry cartridges) that is only used when
fitted to the shotgun (except chokes, ammunition, speed loaders and ammunition carriers) and is to be used at
any time during any COF must be fitted to the shotgun for every COF in the match.
This leads me to believe that you can have or remove chokes between COFs

I understand why you'd want to change chokes during a match, I just find it strange (being a handgunner) that you would be allowed to. In the other disciplines you have to stay configured the same throughout the match. you can't change gear without permission (broken gun sort of thing). I'm not for or against it either way, just curious.
Rob, there is certain specific in this particular firearm... E.g. shooting different ammunition types, such as slugs and birdshot. For instance, most people won't want the risk of damaging barrel by shooting slugs out of the full choke and will use cylinder at such stages; on the other hand, cylinder won't give you a decent group, i.e will increase random changes of hitting close penalty targets beyond some distance.
It interesting watching the folks shooting Open in 3 Gun, depending on the stage the by-pod goes on or off. Some people change scopes, redots etc. Of course in both division we add or remove slings. But with the handguns nothing gets changed I guess it because we all know they are perfect....
