I've never had a chronograph but I'm thinking it's about time I did get one. I want a good one, something I can not only use for firearms but also use for archery. What are the recommendations and why? Also, what should I 'stay away from' and why?

X5 on the chrony. For 2 screen models they are as good as any. Mine is the green one with the printer which is handy. I bought it on ebay for USD$135, seemed like a good deal.

Another vote for the Shoot9ing Chrony.

Reads the same as more $$$ models, and if you are the type that wants to double or triple check things, buy 2 or 3 for less than a $$ model.

:)

When I decided to purchase a chronograph, I realized that it would (or more like should) see finite use. Meaning, that once I had developed loads for all my rifles and pistols it should go on the shelf and stay there.

For this reason I purchased the Beta Master Chrony. The price was right and it provided enough memory for multi-firearm shooting sessions. But I still write results down as they occur, inspect cartridges for pressure signs and take lots of notes. The printer would have been nice but not worth it IMO.

Thanks for all your input, much appreciated. CHRONY it will be.:D I contacted them and they assure me all of their models will handle archery and firearms. Now all I have to do is decide which model. ;) Thanks again.:)

I would highly recommend you get the Master Beta model ... oops... I mean Beta Master. ;) Good for working alone.

It has the remote display that makes it a lot easier to use. Especially if you are at the range with others around and would have to wait to go "down range" to push a button. Also, it not having a LCD screen on the front screen means it is much more likely not to get broken when shot.

I would also recommend that you DON'T buy in Canada! At least not from the manufacture. The Canadian prices on their site are 50% more than the US prices listed. If you buy it from the states you will only be paying maybe $1.13 or so per US dollar. I got mine from Cabela's with some other stuff.

LOL! Didn't know you worked for the company!

Actually I just don't like getting burned. When I asked if I could pay the same as the US costomers I was told no. Pay more in Canada for a Canadian product.

I always love it when people resort to the "maybe you should move there" line! :runaway:

I know buying stuff in the states is cheaper but if everybody did that they Canadian businesses would be out of business.

Sometimes it is also less of a hastle. I mean if you buy something from a Canadian store and it screws up and you send it for warranty work then sending it back to the states and back can be expensive and is much better to take back to the shop you bought it from so they can take care of it ( i am not sure if they even do that)

I just ment to say support your own when you can
