Hey,

I ordered the USGI style cleaning kit from Marstar with my M14. Would you all recommend this kit or is there a better kit or method of cleaning the rifle? I have never owned a centrefire rifle before and don't know if a patchworm will work, preserving the life of the rifling as opposed to a rod.

Thanks!!

I just placed a big order from Brownells in the US for this stuff.

Mods: hotlinking to another site (non-commercial) is OK, right?

I e-mailed Dewy and asked them for everything I need to properly clean the M14. It was about $90 should be even cheaper with better exchange.
I'm doing the same thing for my AR.

just get the dewey rod and have done with it- - those aluminum jobs can leave shavings in the bore-

i got a complete usgi kit including the broken case extractor (you need the special ratchet brush as well) for each of mine, but i use the dewey for cleaning along with a center punched 12 guage shell for a bore guide( just drill out the primer) - the segmented rod that comes with the kit isn't really good enough, but you can use it to knock out a bullet that's stuck in the bore

you want the one with the thick rod, which isa 48- the 44 is a 22 diameter- the other's a 280 or so- you'll want the extra girth if you ever have to whang a bullet out of the bore
