What Cooey model is this magazine for??

Hey guys. I could use some quick advise from some of you Cooey Wizards.

I recently got a Cooey Sure Shot .22 semi auto. The magazine for it does not feed properly and I would like to get another one. (pics below)

My dilemma is I am confused by all the different coey models, both by how some have older plastic style mags and by how the model 64 was made by so many different companies. And where does the 'Sure Shot' fall under? I have done research, but I am just confused.

From what I gathered, The sure shot is basically a model 64.

And the early model 64's had a plastic mag and the later ones were metal of a different design and those mags can be purchased at cabelas.

Well my mag does not look like the Cabelas magazines. but my mag is also Metal. But it looks like the plastic mags for the early cooeys I have seen.

Can someone just confirm with me what type of Mag I have. What model it is for. And where I could find a replacement.

Ive heard good things about finding stuff at 'western gun parts'. But I need to know more about what the mag is before I ask them to search if they have one for me.

I also found that I can buy some sort of conversion kit that can be installed so it uses the newer mags. But i do not shoot .22 much and I got the cooey at a great price, so I would prefer not to invest much into a model 64.

That's a Mossberg #632 mag. Someone has been trying to make it feed properly by the looks of the feed lips.They look to be spread way too wide from the pictures. It fits these models. Mossberg 144LSA, 140B, 140K, 142A, 142K, 142M

I guess my question now is what mag is needed to fit into a 'Sure shot'

Yes sir!

I knew the mag was funky when purchasing it. The gun itself is very nice. especially for the price.

Just doing the task now of finding out what model of mag I ask for when ordering
 
You'll have to wait for the Cooey boys to come along for that. It looks like the standard keyhole style mag. I see them at gun shows all the time. I will be at one tomorrow if you want me to look for one. They aren't too expensive. Just need someone to confirm if that's what it takes.

I go to a lot of shows so might be able to find one for you cheaper than ordering it. Someone may come along and have one to. I can phone a buddy of mine tomorrow if noone answers . He will know what it takes.

Boils down too, if it takes the early plastic magazines, that's the reason someone butchered a mossberg magazine to fit. The plastic magazines are near impossible to find.
If it takes the metal magazines, current production savage 64 magazines will work.
Pictures of the rifle, specifically the bottom, should clear it up. Someone may know sight unseen.

If it's the early version that takes plastic magazines, it can be converted to take current production savage 64 metal magazines. Some fitting is required.
 
There were only 2 types of mags made for the 64's. The original is a square plastic mag. As already stated they are nearly impossible to find. A little while after the 64's were in production the problems with the plastic mags became apparent thus the switched to the keyhole shaped metal mags. They made a conversion kit which I believe includes a metal keyhole style mag to convert the older ones that used the plastic mags. It is a fairly easy conversion kit to do. You can use the Savage 64 mags currently produced with this as the magazines have changed little in the 64's time of production under a couple companies. Currently that being Savage. Some tweaking of the modern mags might be needed or might not. Each gun can be a little different so if you get the kit you will simply have to experiment. However not sure if the kits are still being made or are new old stock and that is the reason for them being a bit on the pricey side. However if you want to use an older 64 the plastic mags end up being a pain in the rear to use and break easily and jam, so the choice is yours if you want to spend the $ for a conversion kit or not.

I ordered the parts directly from savage(had to call and give the parts numbers) a few years ago. Not pricey at all(well, $30 maybe?). I'm guessing someone got the idea to buy the parts from savage and make a 'conversion kit' to sell for a profit.

I had heard that the ones gotten from Western gun Parts were pricey. Haven't needed to get one myself so wasn't sure.
 
I try to save a buck wherever I can, if you convert (or the rifle is already converted) to use the metal magazines, don't buy a used one! I adore the 64, but the potmetal magazines wear out, and can make migraines feeding. Good news though, Savage still makes these new today, and can be had for about 25 bucks.
 
To update,

I purchased the parts for the conversion directly from Savage. Worked great. For a fraction of the $65 plus shipping that western gun parts was asking.

Made a video about the process and also gave the part numbers for anyone who in the future wishes to do the same.

Depending on who answers the phone at WGP's they can be quite uncooperative and rude about parts.Some parts they will only sell to gunsmiths.Irv the owner has been good but the ladies at the desk ......not so much......Harold

I have quite going to WGP because of the women at the front counter. They have been very rude and of no help at all. I have dealt with Irv at gun show for many years. He is good to deal with and has vast knowledge. Just too bad about his staff.
 
Magazine release towards front of gun =new style mag
Mag release lever behind the mag =old style plastic . That's all
If your Sure Shot has the checkered stock -sell it to me and get a newer 64.
