Hello!
I'm looking for a bullet for shooting in my M-39.
I've read somewhere that M-39s are a bit tighter than other Mosins and, in fact, can use .308 bullets with good results.
I happen to have some Hornady 165gr. SPBT in .308" and was wondering if I could put together some loads using Varget and WLR primers.
I also have some 47SL remaining in my stores but I was thinking about keeping it for heavier bullets.
What do you think?

The bores seem to vary on the M39's...I would suggest slugging the bore. It'll be worth it, as the M39 can be an extraordinarily accurate rifle with the right bullet.

Just checked with Mosin-Nagant.net and they all say the Finns with Finnish barrels have all .3095" bores but the M-39s have .310" bores. All the Finn-capture Mosins are to be checked for diameter because they retain their original Russian or Russian-specced barrels.
I'll have to slug them all, some day, anyway...
So, for the time being, I think the Hornady #3131 .3105" 174gr. FMJBT could be a very good bullet for my M-39.
However, I have a Tikka barreled M-91 that can shoot .308" bullets with great accuracy. I'll try my Hornady #3045 165gr. BTSP in it with some Varget.
