Caught a sound, turned to see a flash of movement, and the back half of something not very tall vanishing into the growth.
Dark. Black or dark brown (I was looking towards the sun, so not a great look at color). A little taller than a house cat, Looong tail, tapered like an otter's. Was fairly moist in the undergrowth, so may have been wet. Definitely not a fox.
Only saw the arse end and tail, slid back up the trail where it had gone, and did not hear or see anything else.
Didn't hump along like an otter. Smooth gait, from what I saw. Too much tail to be a cat
Wondering if I saw a Fisher or a Marten.
Was a great morning out! Tonight I cut and wrap a small doe!
Cheers
