What do I do with this .270?

You don't need a 270 if you have a 280 (and you do). You don't need a smaller cartridge either. You do need a bigger one. A 338/06 would be good and the increasingly popular 9.3x62 would be a great choice as well. If you wanted to go bigger yet, a 375 Ruger would be a little different in a Model 70 and should work well. Or, you can do like I do and imagine building in each cartridge. Picture the rifle and imagine it's effectiveness on a hunt. Then do nothing at all because you still can't make up your mind! Regards, Bill.

Bill, what I would like to do is to thread that 06 barrel you turned down onto it (with my luck the chances of things lining up correctly are similar to a Russian satellite landing in my back yard) add a nice set of iron sites to it and with those QR rings have a pretty neat setup for pretend Grizzly hunting.:D

Scope it, then shoot it, in my case I would turn it into a 25-06 but if it shot well as a 270 I would wear that barrel out having fun. Nice gun by the way.

John, in truth this is most likely what will happen. It needs safety and trigger work and I'll likely have the barrel cut to 22" the bottom metal re contoured and stock it in an Echols Legend EDGE McMillan.

With a little work from Bill that combination will make that 270 a fine mule deer rifle, L/H SS M70'S are hard as hell to find, I keep looking.

John

Scope it, shoot it re-barrel it in to something funner when it's shot out and sell it when you get bored with it cause I'll take it off your hands if it's still in decent shape.

Have fun.

Mind if I ask where did you get it and how much? Lefty guns are hard to find so I just go single shot or lever in that order.
