I picked up a .303 that I was told is a sniper rifle. On the band on the rear of trigger guard is these markings:A crown,G.R.1916,ShtLE,lll.On the left hand side of barrel isa crown,G.R.,crossed flags with a P,an apple shape, looks like a 3L,over top of a B.
It has a 25" barrel ,cleaning kit and all numbers match. It will be for sale so any info with price would be helpfulhttp://

It is a sporterized SMLE Mk. III. These usually sell in the $125 range, assuming that the bore is good.

It would seem that all soldiers on both sides during WW I and WWII were snipers judging by the number or rifles that have been brought back and where once "Sniper Rifles".
Looks like a decent No 1 though.

I don't usually touch that stuff and have no clue with the details on what to look for.Rifling looks very crisp and the bore is shiny.Rifle feels good overall.Seems nice and tight from the others I have picked up

Without a mag, a typical No1Mk3 sells for around $100.

I wonder what signs we'd look for on a de-sniperized, sporterized No1Mk3...

I was once brought a Japanese sniper rifle they said they shot 303 brit in.It was a P14 with the ears ground off.It had so many proof marks they thought it was Japanese writing.:p

My neighbour had a sportered K98 and told me it was an ex sniper rifle because it was drilled and tapped for a scope...I looked it over for him and he was none to happy when I explained his bubba had no collector value...
