Passed a friend at the store yesterday who said that if I buy him the dies and everything else he'll need, he'll reload my .308 WIN for me for free.

So what is it that I need to buy? Ive never reloaded anything and he didn't mention everything I need.

So... help....

I advise you to get yourself set up for reloading.:) It could be as simple as a set of Lee rgb dies, the cheapest Lee single stage press ($25-$35) primers, powder, bullets. You already have brass. A scale, some type of scoop for powder....a cartridge length trim gauge, a shell holder and a set of calipers.

That and a little patience.

I wouldn't trust my gun/life to someone elses reloading skills for long, laff.
If he/she has a brain fart you end up paying for it.

M.

Big help, that!

Anyhoo....

Cases, if you don't have them to reload already.

Primers. Probably large Rifle, unless you have some batches of target cases. Go with Large rifle standard load primers. Pick a maker that you can get, preferably.

Powder. About as many choices as there are colors at the paint store. I'll leave that up to you and your loader to sort out.

Projectiles. 50 to a box for the high end stuff, 100 to a box for the normal stuff, 100 to a bag for the plain-jane cheap stuff.

I am loading 180 grain winchester bulk bullets over 47 grains of H380, and a Winchester Large Rifle standard primer, in a Federal case. So far the deer don't have internet access, so they don't know they are not supposed to die from cheap bullets. So far, no complaints, and confidence is high.

Accuracy is around an inch at 100 yards when I have a decent day at the range. Figure rib cage, out to farther than I feel the need to shoot at deer, when sighted 1 1/2" high at 100.

I'd shoot lighter bullets, but I have these. :D

x2 What Trev said!!!!

But I'd up that to 300 bullets.

In my experiance it usually takes at least 108 bullets to fully develop a load with one powder. So even if the first powder works, (quite often it doesn't) you still need to load some for the fall hunt.

So far I have gone through 213 Bergers trying to find a "really good" combo.... Good thing I started with 600 bullets.... The first powder I tried only netted me a .94" 5 shot group at 100 yrds..... I like to see around .60" (ish) before I can really feel confident in my loads. The reason for this, I live in the Praries, most of my shots at deer are over 300 yrds.... the differance at 100 makes for the differance between a clean kill and a wounded animal at 300 sometimes.

My $.02
