Hi all :D

I'm really starting to get into the military rifle scene.
I'm curious to know what a good+ condition M1 Carbine goes for?
I would also like know what to be aware of when examining an M1 Carbine?
Are the new Auto Ordnance M1C's any good?
If so, where can I get one and at what price?

Thank you all for your time and patience :D

Some people on this board have paid a couple of hundred bucks for really nice M1 Carbines, but most carbines sell in the $400-$600 range, depending on condition, if they're collectible, etc.

Are you looking to get a "shooter", or are you looking to collect them (or both)?

Mostly looking for a shooter since I'm not willing to pay for collectors items.

Although there are deals to be had, you can probably expect to pay $400-$500 for a shooter carbine in VG condition, or better. They frequently come up for sale on this board. Parts can be scarce, especially USGI parts. Consider buying a proper bolt tool as well (Numrich has them).

Another good website to visit is www.ambackforum.com - this is where the old "Battlerifles" board went. They have an M1 Carbine forum with some very friendly and knowledgeable people, and I'm sure folks there can comment on the Auto Ordnance guns.

yup 4-600 bucks each there somtimes hard to find ive yet to pay over 350. for one (ive got 32 complete m1 carbines a few incomplete)

parts are hard to get in canada mags can be too there is NO as in NONE surplus ammo best deal out there is win whitebox

they are restricted as wee there are ones that have had longer barrels installed makeing them non restricted but they go for $500. +

would you sell me one

nope I rarely sell ive actually got 3 more comming. you want pay what a firearms worth my ww2 USGI rifles are worth $500. + most are all original all matching some are very rare manufactures

you want a shooter get a plainfield not too bad for a comercial make they are restricted still you can only shoot themat a range

Most people will tell you to stay away from the Universal carbines. They do not accept all USGI parts. I have a Plainsfield and I am quite happy with it. It is a non-GI rifle but will accept all USGI parts.

I picked up a non-restricted Saginaw M1 for $450 from Marstar. I've also picked up a replacement beater stock and metal handguard for the rifle's trips into the woods as my new bush gun. I'm mostly happy with the rifle - I've had a few feeding problems with it, but I think it's a magazine problem, not a rifle problem. Also, shooting it from the hip left-handed always results in my getting hot brass pinging me right in the mouth  The pointability can't be beat though. It's a fun little rifle. Get one. :D

QUESTION: Can the ejection angle be changed?

the ejection is supposed to be left and to the rear BUT i have to early rifles that eject directly foreward they feed and function fine who knows?

many causes of missfeeds in the carbines after mags is the recoil spring

Left and to the rear? Mine ejects up, back and slightly to the right. I guess I'll just have to avoid shooting from the hip.

I replaced the recoil spring - it's a little stiffer but the action is still very light and easy to cycle. I've often thought the it is too light, but I have nothing to compare it to. It works properly more often than it fails, and when it does work, it returns to full battery every time. I've never taken the bolt apart, so this may be a stupid question, but can the ejection angle be changed by using longer or shorter springs for the extractor/ejector?

Carbine mis-feeds are usually caused by dirty rifles and the mag. Give it a bath and tweak the mag lips open a tick with fine needle nose pliers. Minds you, with a bubba barrel, it may not be installed properly.

The last time I cleaned it, the bbl easily screwed out from the receiver, it was loose. You may be on to something with the improper bbl installation. I tightened it up so that the sights are aligned (it won't get any tighter), that's it. Should there be a pin in there to hold it tight? Is this a big problem? Is it unsafe? The rifle is otherwise clean and well maintained. I'll try the mag lip tweak.
