I always hear hunters #####ing about tag fees. I htink that it is cheap entertainment...

What do they cost where you are?

Here is BC's schedule of fees. It shoudl be noted that with the exception of bison and grizzly, EVERYTHING on this list can be hunted in a general season, using tags over the counter, no lottery winning needed.

(Higher number is non resident tag cost)

Species Licence Fees
Species licences are required for the hunting of
the following animals and are required in
addition to the basic hunting licences.
Fees include HCTF surcharge, but not G.S.T.

Most of the Alberta tags are $33.25 for residents, with some tags like sheep being about $50. Some tags for does are less than $20, so the cost isn't bad at all.

I've always thought that for the opportunity to hunt, and the meat you get, the cost of the tag is a great deal.

Here in Nova Scotia the 2006 fees were as follows:
Resident/Non-Resident

Every hunter needs a Wildlife habitat stamp $3.00
Small Game (Grouse/Pheasant/Hare) $15.79 / $57.00
Whitetail Deer $25.51 / $125.40
Black Bear $24.29 / $114.00
Moose (by draw only) $60.71

That what we have to offer

"...so the cost isn't bad at all...' If you ever figured out the total cost per pound of any game meat, you'd have a stroke. The tag is the least of it.

Wow

Expensive in other parts of Canada
Here in the Yukon

Hunting licence $10
TAGS:
Moose $5
Caribou $5 you're allowed 2
Black Bear $5 2 as well
Grizzly $25 can harvest 1 every 3 years
Sheep $10
Goat $10
Bison-Permit $50 $10 to apply, allowed 1 every 5 years
Deer-Permit $50 same deal as bison I believe

Wolves/Coyotes/Wolverine- no tags req'd

Cheap to hunt here

I hunted deer in SK every year and I think a Cdn Non resident tag was $140ish or so.

The only tag cost I complain about in Alberta is the Pheasant license.

First you have to get a WIN card, then you buy a wildlife certificate, then you have to buy an upland game bird license, then you can buy a pheasant license. WTF? So you have to buy 3 tags to shoot a bloody bird. Sounds like a tax grab to me. I guess it helps pay for all those release birds.
