Hey I’m looking to mount a light on my mossberg 500 for camping/ home defence. I don’t want to spend a pile on this setup as I have many other gun related priorities. I already have a magpul m-lok forend. So do I buy an M-LOK rail and buy a mount or use a scope ring? Also what would you suggest for a cheaper flashlight. I may never even use it but I’d like to have one and one that doesn’t kill batteries just sitting there. How are the NC star lights thanks

Here’s two ways I mount a light for cheap, one is a single cheap 1” weaver ring and the other is a cheap 1” laser mount. Both have a cheap crappy tire mastercraft “tactical” flashlight they sell in a 2 pack, I’ve had them on shotguns for a couple years and they have held up fine to the recoil. The light takes 3 AAA’s.
I would go with a Magpul Rail Light Mount MAG498, make sure you decide if you want it on the Left or Right side, they make two models. Then get the M-LOK® Cantilever Rail/Light Mount, Polymer, MAG587 to mount to your forend. Works well and mounts the light forward of the rail position so it minimizes the barrel shadow.
As far as a cheap light, YMMV. Some will not sustain the shock of the 12 gauge blast. My Thrunite TN12 (2016) is 1100 lumens and works on my Remy 870 and are available on amazon.ca in various configurations of chargers.

For under $40USD you could go the Solarforce route. I've got nearly a dozen of their lights and I'm pleased with them all. I've owned Fenix, 4Sevens, Surefire, Jetbeam, and many other quality lights. Solarforce are a solid value and seem plenty durable.
Benefit of the P60 host is if the head dies you can drop another in very easily.

I think the pack of rings is around $25-28 and the two pack of flashlights is around the $30 mark and comes with batteries, not bad little lights. I bought them for around the house and the glove box till I got a better light.
