I put in corn, and it turns out i have been feeding the farmers horses who own the next land over . I am hoping it
'corn" doesn't hurt horses in large quantities because they ate that whole bucket up fast. ( have trail cam on feeder, 2 pics of deer 600 of horses lol). Any other grains that i can put in the feeder, i may move the feeder to another spot, although i really like this spot.

thats the problem, some things will kill a horse, such as legumes like peanuts, to much corn is not that great either i am told. i think i may stick with oats and barley that way i know the horses are safe. I would feel pretty bad if i got the guys horses sick.

yes i have salt blocks, that have been used by something....probably horses. And this stuff i bought at sail on a whim, a scrape maker....its a clear liquid, just squirt on the ground and Bobs your uncle.......the cameras will tell the tail later on. See what i did their "tail".....instead of "tale".....White tail. So sorry for that

Just change the time the feeder goes off. Maybe an hour before last light. Less likely the horses are still out. Assuming you have a feeder with a timer. If you do not buy they are cheap and the corn will last longer.

Forget the licks, use coarse salt, add it to the ground or your grain.

Much more natural appearing treat as deer will dig the ground looking for these minerals and when it dissolves it stays in the soil and is kind of residual after they eat the grain.

As for grain, what do the local farmers usually have for crops? Around here is barely and peas for the big buffet that are most appealing to the deer. They do have favorites.

Oats , are a not bad choice but when they have other options they tend to go that way.

Biggest thing I found, little portions, spread it around , make them kind of work a little for it. I have a 5gal auto feeder that I can make last for almost 2 weeks.

yes so i dialed it down to once a day around 7:30am and i will leave it alone for a couple weeks , we will see what the cameras see. Thanks

Don't use a feeder anymore - the bears destroyed them - Now use 2nd cut alfalfa - open the first bail and then let the deer work at the rest from there - we have actually seen a bail disappear over night - interesting game cam shots - I figure if I can smell it as I walk into the stand the deer can smell it from who knows how far - and guess what - the bears leave it alone!!!
