What do you guys think of a 6.5 or 7mm WSSM?

I'm wondering if you could get 6mmBR "big brother" performance from one of these setups. Accurate, efficient, easy'ish on barrels. Would love to see what it'd do with 140 class VLD's in 6.5 and 160+ VLD's in 7mm. Should be well mannered and accurate I'd imagine, not that I'll ever get it happening :p just a nice thought.

Haven't finished my 6.5WSSM project yet, but I can tell you that reports from Williamsport that it is a sensational cartridge atr 1,000 yards!
Mine will be done soon, set up to use a 100 grain flat based Alberta Wildcat, out to 300 yards.
Rilfe is a B78 Browning, 26" Ron Smith gain twist barrel in heavy taper.
Its main use will be for hunter style competitions like the Ponka Rifleman's Rodeo

The rifle has spent the last few years as a 6.5WSM, a great cartridge in itself.

According to my ballistics program the 6.5 WSSM shouild push a 95 grain bullet about 3,500 FPS!
Boyd heaton of Williamsport 1,000 yard club runs the 142 bullets and has posted some crazy small groups in the light gun (17lb. ) class, as has his daughter.

The 6.5WSSM is going to have very similar performance to my 6.5 Mystic. My Mystic is an improved and modified wildcat based on the 308 case. With 140/142gr bullets, you will be within 100fps of the 6.5-284. In a 28" to 30" barrel, 2800 to 2900fps should be achievable.

Only downside is if Win/Browning pulls the plug on the WSSM as recent rumors suggest.

Jerry I do believe you will be seeing this rifle at the spring shoot if all goes to plan (a big if) I'm really torn between 6.5 and 7mm, and I believe I'll go 7mm interestingly enough if I actually get this off the ground. Little slower, easier on the barrel, little larger bore for a slight increase in efficiency, and the BC's are higher relatively.
