What do you look for when reviewing ads on the EE?

My searches in the EE have narrowed over time but when reviewing ads by various subscribers makes me wonder.

Ads that stretch over three pages are ignored. Why keep moving back to the top without making changes or starting over after deleting.

There is no movement in regards to price, sometimes something new is added or another shown as sold.

The moment there are ten replies to an EE it is not worth the effort of looking.

Maybe it is time for the administrators to have the ability to delete when something is just taking up space.

I tend to agree with you about ads trying to sell things - I do not agree about ads trying to buy things. Sometimes, maybe for either, they just have to be read by that "one" person who wants to buy or sell that item. I like photos - often I see stuff different than the ad maker's words - that makes a difference whether I contact them or not.

Photos and an accurate description. Pride in ownership - show your item with nice clear photos. If you don't have the time to include a photo I will pass.

Accurate description and photos go along way. As far as ads being bumped multiple times, a lot are just over priced. Why buy used when a new one is same or less money? I have an ad on ####### that is about two years old I keep bumping. I have sold multiple Lee Enfield bolts off of it.

I don’t often look at commercial ads, I’ll go to their site if I want to see their products. Private ad listings …….
Well written useful descriptions. I want to know make and model, caliber or gauge, barrel length, condition (including any flaws or damage). And I expect to see decent spelling and grammar. If you can’t take the care and time to get it accurate I can’t trust you to know what you’re talking about. Proof read before posting. And it’s perfectly acceptable (and easy) to make corrections after an ad has been posted.
Good clear detailed pictures of the whole gun and closeups of features, markings and flaws. I don’t need to see four nearly identical pictures of a barrel. Fuzzy out of focus pictures to me screams “ I’m hiding something”.

The "classic" for me was a "for sale" ad for an "all matching" Remington made P-14 - pictures clearly showed that was a Winchester made P-14 stock - the markings said so - BUT - is another guy and I had been looking for several years for a "W" P-14 stock - USA, UK, etc. - might have been common as dirt at one time, but not any more. So, I bought that item - for the stock - not for the so-called "all matching" description - which sort of begs the question about how did seller arrive at the price that he was asking - was obvious from that ad that he did not know what he had, despite the words. You will see ads for P-14's that are in M1917 stocks, and so on - sometimes it DOES matter what you know or do not know. The foregoing might not matter to some buyers, but it does to me.

Also tell people where you are!!

I hate seeing ads where people are selling something and aren't willing to ship, but don't say what city or province they're in. OR they're willing to ship on your dime....but they live in the middle of nowhere NWT, Yukon or Nunavut.

Pictures, first and foremost. If you don't include any pics, I generally move on unless there aren't better options, then I might ask. Condition, price, location.

I look for pictures, detailed description that tells me you know what your talking about, a reasonable price or willingness to accept an offer. Then I dig into your trader rating to see if there’s any red flags, I generally look for location as I’m happy to deal face to face if someone is within driving distance for an actual firearm. Always nice to inspect it in person.

I like to look at ad’s regardless though, helps to get a feel for market value when something pops up that I’m actually looking for.

Glad to see my issue was not "one off the deep end". Some of those continuous EE's are over a year and in to their fourth page.

On page one of Rimfires for sale, 35 and 50 replies.
On page one of Optics, 41 (twice) by the same person.

Hard to say whether they don't care of GAS (Give A $hit)!

I have my eye on a German-made “Gedore electrically insulated Torque Wrench” that’s posted in the Exchange of All Other Stuff.

Still on the fence, but thinking about it.

Then again, maybe I should keep my mouth shut in case somebody scoops it up before I pull the trigger.

I am not a fan of even looking at an ad unless there is a reasonable trader rating.
A form of location in the ad or the avatar sure would be helpful!

Maybe the mods could consider removing ads that have not been bumped in two or three weeks. There are just too many that do not get a responsible 'Please remove'.

Quality photos and those that show the defects of the item offered.
Savage 99's are prone to tang cracks and lack of photos of this area lead me to suspect.

Other units have flaws that are well noted and I appreciate those sellers that are up front
with scratches, dents, and what not.

Leads credence to their trader rating.

Hate poor quality or shadowy photos.

Oh, and all that nonsense at the bottom of their ads........no peeky collectors, no this, don't do that..........augh.......................:bangHead:

This one made me laugh. I am holding off as well.

Some of the 'older' ads are there 'to keep the partner happy' that they're Trying To Sell. BUT many are just by LAZY Sellers that type 'sold' somewhere in the middle instead of following the SIMPLE steps to get it deleted. If something has been bumped XX times, I'd send a 'fair' offer. Might be 'time to sell'.
And PICS ! PICS ! PICS ! I'M tired of seeing 'pics to email' - F-off !

Pictures, 100%

If a guy can't be bothered to put up pictures, I can't be bothered to read the descriptions. Sucks too because I'm always on the lookout for something cool.

You see those posts that have been upped 200 times and no pics. I know it's a bit tough on gunnutz but just post it to flikr and give a link. I don't mind links :)

1. Actual photos of the item for sale - with every phone a camera, no excuse not to.
2. Detailed description, including shipping or pickup information.

Pricing is subjective, but repeated bumps without a price or term change don't interest me.
