Im trying to decide on a Shotgun to do light bird hunting (maybe once a year) But skeet and trap all year around.

Would you go with semi auto or over under?

Looking for 400-800 price range so it is limiting especially with over under.

No offense intended to the OP, but these requests are asking for a gun to do a lot of conflicting things. It would be like asking for a rifle to shoot F-Class, 3 gun and wanting to take it out to hunt moose and gophers a couple of times a year. The surprising thing is that you can come close.

If your budget is $800 max forget the O/U. You may get a gun that is OK, but you may not. Too much of a crap shoot. You need to stick to a semi-auto, and in fact, may need to go used there to get a quality one. Look for a 28" barrel with screw in chokes. It will get the job done on all you mentioned without major limitations, just won`t have the specialized features that separate a trap gun from a skeet gun from a waterfowl gun from an upland bird gun.

Good luck!

:agree: A semi auto with screw in chokes.:D I believe there is a Winchester SX3 for sale in the EE. It would be a good choice.

Non taken haha, after doing a couple of days I realized that Im pretty much going to have to go with semi auto and with interchangeable chokes. NBD ! thanks tho guys !

Now, I dont own any semi auto shotguns, your price range is tricky though, I own a Browning BPS hunter,it's a pump but she is a beaut and in your price range for a brand new one. Smooooth action on it, comes with the chokes you need/want.

I'd look at the Stoeger 2000 Inertia guns. Ignore the haters, mine has eaten over 5000 rounds flawlessly. I have a BPS in 10ga, 77 20ga, 870's in 12, 500's in 12, an 1100 in 12 and have bought, sold and shot countless others. For me, the Stoeger 2000 is a great gun for the price and as reliable as anything else for 3x the price. I have options, and I always grab the Stoeger. Plus I don't feel bad when I drop it in the marsh.
