What do you think about these .17 HMR's ?

Canuck, How much did that gun cost you? Have you shot it yet? Have any opinons on the rifle yet?

It was $299 + Gough and Screw, less 5% (Wholesale Sports was having a sale to keep up with Russel's :p )
I haven't shot yet as I thought I had rings that would work with the scope, but after searching and trying everything I had around, I ended up going back to WS and picking up the Xtra high Weavers today.
I was actually going to buy the synthetic stocked HB model ($40 bucks cheaper) , but I didn't like the balance or the cheekweld of it, I like the weight of this one and it shoulders well.
I'll let you know how it shoots after tomorrow ;)

I have the Marlin 917V and love it.. Near centerfire accuracy- whats not to like?

Just the heavy trigger pull these guns have.

My son has a Model 925 in 22LR and the trigger pull is really heavy on it too. But when I was lining it up for him I was still able to get the bullet holes touching most of the time at 20 yards!

Maybe something like the Basix Trigger System at riflebasix.com would help?

I'm getting my hands on a Marlin 917M2 with 4x12x40 Tasco for $225.00...ammo is about $7.00..can't wait to try it out this weekend against the CIL Anschutz 22LR

I bought a Ruger 77/17 last summer and it's great! I've shot many groudhogs and beavers with it.

Maybe, but with this you get the accutrigger and stainless along with a decent stock on it already.

Just waiting for mine to come in, I got mine for a little less than SIR price but even at $ 465 (SIR) its still worth every penny and a good deal as well IMHO.

Just orderd mine today from SIR.
Although I'll have to wait a month before they restock. Apparently, they sold out in record time.

I have a Savage 93R17BVSS. I mounted a Leopold VX - II 3 -9 X 40mm SILVER DUPLEX on it. And finished it up with a Rifle Basix adjustable sear/trigger kit. It allowed me to drop the trigger pull to just under 1lb pull. I did not like the factory trigger pull. It feels great now. If aybody tells you guys that one of these guns is not accurate out of the box they are lying. The light bullets will stray a little on a windy day but a gopher or pigeon at 150 yards with my setup does not stand a chance.

Now that my R22 is finaly running I've been having a rimfire blast and I want to get something in .17hmr
I've been seriously looking at the CZ452 Varmint as well. I almost bought the synthetic stock remington 597 in .17hmr that they have sitting in Lever Arms then I read this thread and decided ... errrr .... maybe not http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130066.

Dose anyone know of a decent synthetic stock rifle in .17hmr? The Ruger77/17 looks terrible!!

I still prefer the .22 WMR to the .17 HMR for "usefullness" but apart from that I'd go with one of the Savages with the Accutrigger. Since thats usually the downfall of this class of rimfire rifle.

That's what I decided to do. :) I just returned from buying myself a Savage 93R17, which is the basic 17HMR B/A rifle, with blued action, synthetic stock and normal weight barrel. It was $267 including tax, and it has the "Accutrigger". :) I am looking forward to trying it out sune!

Where did you get yours from?

Hi cereal,

Man, what a sweetheart of a rifle!

I took my 17 HMR Savage to the range today and zeroed it's scope at 50 yards w/ Federal 17 grain varmint loads, then Hornady 20 grain XTP loads. Boy oh boy...does this little rifle shoot - and "effortlessly"! The Accutrigger is magnificent! I really can't get over how well it works.

I'm just itchin' to take it out to the gopher fields one of these days! :)

I am itching to buy this gun. Lebaron has it for $229 plus tax which is a great price. I want to buy it so bad but I have already lined up to buy a shotgun this weekend. Maybe I buy both.

After several attempts and seasons of using my .17 HMR on the trap line I have gone to a Savage 93G accu trigger in .22 mag. The trigger on these rifles is great. 265.00 shipped tax and all from SIR can't be beat. I found the .17 HMR just did not perform consistently on head shot beavers. The one I had was a H & R Sportster (NEF) Great gun and very accurate, just did not work that well on beavers and trapped timber wolves.

take care Darryl
