What do you think of a M14 muzzle brake front sight combo?

Wouldn't fatiguing of the aluminum brake from the impacts of the muzzle blast be a concern?

We're looking at this now, our plan is to use a silicon/aluminum alloy that is supposed to have similar strength characteristics to steel so it shouldn't be an issue.

Would there be any concerns with the dissimilar metals (silicon/aluminum alloy & steel) being in direct contact, causing a reaction/corrosion ?

Yes, galvanic corrosion is a concern, we are planning to coat the face and the threads with a non conductive\non corrosive compound. We are working on refining the process to achieve suitable coating thickness. We are also testing a corrosion proof coating for the inside of our steel brakes.

Regardin aluminium alloy break - I toyed with this idea but abandoned it for I think not galvanic action but errosion. I am not sure but I think hot jet of expanding gases will eventually errode brake vanes or ports. Is there a market for break with dovetail? Don't think so. Too many options available already, there is no problem shipping across the border, cheaper and effective breaks. And - most gunsmiths probably make their own breaks for its not much more than threaded pipe with holes in it. And - all M14s end up being scoped eventually.

I think Suprathepeg/John product will be one of two options as it incorporates a sight with with the muzzle brake. I think it will be very appealling to those who do the 18.5" barrel chop. The Smith Navy brake is an option, but I think it is over $100 USD, plus import hassles, exchange rate. A CDN made product sounds good.

True, many M14's end up being scoped. Because there are a good quick detach scope mounts that have excellent zero retention, I think many users like to have back up iron sights available when they choose to use open sights. I know I like to have the option of using optics or irons.

My info might be a bit dated, but last I heard, Valley Gunsmithing in Pembroke Ont. is the official Smith Enterprise distributor in Canada. If thats still the case it should eliminate the import + exchange rate hassles.

They will still have to deal with them and pass them onto the customer as per usual.
