What do you think of plastic grips?

I don't mind them on some guns if they use good plastic, but I prefer nice wood grips. I find that the plastic gets scratched easily, and can crack if dropped or you over tighten the screws. Nice rosewood grips seem to be my favorite.

I like wood better from a feel and looks standpoint, but some plastics make for really good grips that offer lots of bite and wear really well. The G10 grips by VZ Grips come to mind for this.

Many handguns come with plastic grips. At times it was fashionable in handguns and thought a sign of adopting new technology. Is wood better?

I don't mind synthetic grips... sometimes the only difference is aesthetics... I prefer wood. Now in the case of the Browning Challenger 1 (two in the picture, but the bottom right specifically) is let down terribly by that synthetic grip: It looks and feels fine, but on account of the pistol design, the slide release malfunctions as it depends on the grip to hold it in it's recess... a hard task for a grip that flexes and does not remain firm against the receiver. Aside from being produced for only one year, I can't figure out why the Bluebook has a 10% premium over the wood gripped Challenger 1's of previous years... which would not be cursed with this fault with their rigid wood grips.

The Star F (just below the Ruger Mk1) is a pretty piece.

I am big Sig fan and the rosewood grips they offer look amazing but they cost a small fortune for an ounce or two of hardwood. Same with the aluminum grips which feel great in the hand but go for well over $100! For the money and for durability plastic is hard to beat. For looks and feel wood and metal is nicer.

I also agree with mmattockx, the G10 stuff is nice.

I don't care ch either way from a point of function, but I do like the looks of GOOD wood on revolvers, specifically single actions. Some wood grips look fairly ugly though.

I've got a beautiful chunk of fancy walnut just waiting to be turned into some 1911 grips. I prefer the look of wood but lately I've really been liking that shokwood hybrid resin stuff
