I hear the blackhawk cqc is the shizznit.... is this a practical holster to use in an IPSC competition. Any problems with holster wear etc. The two models available that i'm looking at are the passive retention system and the trigger guard lock.

I have one for my XD with the Serpa option. I like it a lot and with just a little practice it feels like the Serpa release is second nature to me. Mark

I have one for my 1911 Commander (the holster is for the 1911 model) with the SERPA and I like it a lot... The lock is very positive yet easy to disengage.

As noted, the SERPA is intuitive, and doesn't interfere with a quick and smooth presentation...
I've got one for my Glocks as well as the 1911 model and love them both.
Nuff said!

Excellent holster, the draw is quick, yet the retention of the serpa is very effective. I'm using it for IPSC, and I never will have to worry about a dropped gun like with 'race-holsters'

Sombody was telling me that they were having problems with the Serpa holsters. Recalled some or something. Apparently the lever retention system goes in the trigger guard to lock it in place which causes ADs. Anybody else hear anything? Too bad if it is true because I was really interested in purchasing one. Tried one out and it works awesome. Seems very natural to use.

I, and several co-workers, use the CQC holsters in GLock 19's in civies for concealed carry

No issues with them - not quite a BladeTech holster - but it onyl cost me $20 USD :D

All polymer holsters will create wear areas - BFD its a tool not your lover...

I know they make them for M9/92-F's but I have no idea what a G-SD is.

What about these new holsters for Beretta?

Thanks guys, i'm sold.. i just have to pick between the bling carbon fibre finish or the plain black one. Oh and BTW where did you find one for $20?

If you want my opinion about the finish, I would say to go with the plain black one. The carbon fiber brings nothing more to the holster and give this 'ricer' look that I hate. Like a carbon fiber hood on a hatchback Civic if you ask me.

I'd like to hear more about this. I'd like to get one of these holsters too, but the possibility of an AD suggests more research is needed...

And I guess in this case, it truly would be an AD, not an ND. An AD right into my foot. ouch.

I've got an Olive Drab (look cool value) SERPA holster for our (my wife has a 1911 also) 1911's. What a great waistband and paddle holster.

Never had to worry about an AD. I have horsed around (empty chamber) with cocked and locked condition a great deal and the hammer never fell !

Cheers,
Barney

I don't see how the serpa mechanism can cause andAD as the trigger guard bottoms out on the holster and thats where the serpa mechanism engages, far from the trigger.

holsters that use the trigger guard retension system can in theory
cause the fire arm to discharge .because it a clamp type system
there is an area that is close to the trigger.street wise bad guys
have been known to try to disarm Leo's by putting all thier weight
in down ward pressure on the holstered pistole in order to seperat
the holster from the belt. so in theory the pistole could be pushed
down ward with enough pressure to seperate the bottom part of the
mechanism and pushing the trigger onto the clamp and fire.
I dont know if I'm explaining it clearly but I have seen a demonstration.
kind of like the old Baretta's having the slide and bbl removed while the shooter is holding the pistole. Possible but no known instance unless
you count Jet Lee doing it to Mel Gibson In leathal weapon 4.
If you accept the theory then when using these type holsters
it would make sense to use with pistoles that have manual safeties that
require user manipulation to disengage.and pistoles with pasive safties
like Glocks Sigs Xd's etc would be avoided. But then again you probably
wont have to worry about that in at the range.

I have a Blackhawk carbon fiber holster and it is good holster. For IPSC though take a look at the Blade tech dropped offset holster. It holds the gun lower and away from your body. Easier to grip when drawing.
