I apologize if this threads been done before but I'm curious as to what brand/model of .22 people consider to work the best in a 10/22. Now I know many of you have cazy custom 10/22's where the reciever is the only original part, but how about a standard custom 10/22?

Personally I found most ammo made a 4' grouping at 50yrds with my stock 10/22 (w/4x Bushnell Banner Scope). However I recently tried Winchester WILDCAT and found I was getting groupings of 1.5-2' at 50yrds....

Whats your take?

My take is it all depends on your rifle, that is why you get a couple brands and see what shoots the best. I have the target model and so far Dynapoints have been the best but bought some other stuff that I want to try out if I ever get the stupid rifle bedded.

CCI Mini-Mags shoot reasonably well and are really clean. Very little carbon and primer fouling. No noticeable unburned powder. Good stuff! And about 2" at 50m.

What you should do is go and get all the 22 ammo you can find and shoot them all. The gun will tell you what it likes very soon. Mine happened to like CCI Minimags but then every 22 I have loves the stuff. Still they are notorious for liking one specific brand so check it out and then you will know for sure. Asking that question here only tells you what other rifles like. Nothing like an excuse to go shooting eh?

I just have a basic all weather 10/22 right now still need to pickup a scope for it.
I've only used federal with mine, so far it's worked out good.

I agree. That being said I have yet to own a .22 that didn't like CCI Mini-mags. They are usually my first choice. But a little experimentation with other brands will likely find another with acceptable results as the CCI can be difficult to find sometimes.

best brand of 22LR for a 10/22

my 10/22 will eat up pretty well anything I put through it . last night I was shooting sportco superfast 22 ammo and some remington thunderbolt along with some federal value pack crap . why I said crap was because in the past I have had some misfires with the federal bulk ammo . but last night it all went bang . the CCI - mini mags are very nice but pricey . 22 ammo that is just dumped in the bulk boxes can have the primer powder shift in the rim so I have been told and that;s why you will get some miss fires with the bulk ammo . nothing to be afraid of . your not in combat . as a former post said try all you can get your hands on and see what you like . happy shooting . :)

I am in the process of trying out all different types and so far my 10/22 will shoot anything I put in it. It seems to favor the Federals, Winchesters and loves Stingers !

I buy the CCI Blazer 525 round value packs exclusivley for my 10/22. They are 40gr wax coated lead round nose. I hear CCI makes some fine ammunition and I don't feel like coughing up the cash for stingers and the like. out of 1500 rounds I had one stove pipe, with cleaning every 500 or so rounds. I fired 50-100 of my buddy's federal bulk pack, and I seem to remember one or two stoppages ftf/fte and larger carbon/unburnt powder blowback buildup and have since stayed away from them.

I have found that Winchester Power Points are accurate in any .22 I put tem in. However, with my ####ty vision I can find no difference between them and Federal bulk packs when I am using iron sights

As mentioned, you buy a box of every available 22 ammo in your area. Test them all for accuracy and reliability (a big issue with semi's), then go and buy as much of that lot of 22 ammo as you can find. - dan

+1 .

and if the only mod you do is replace the hammer & sear - or even just the hammer- to lighten the stock trigger pull, most group sizes will be cut by 1/2.

everything but windchester wild cat.. and by everything I mean I tried them all but the only one that gamed is the wildcat..
