What do you think the price of 12(6) will do?

It has been stated by a couple of people I talked to that the 12(6) pistol/revolver crap will be dropped and it will go back to the way it was before. If that is indeed the plan then what will happen to the prices of them, I would say that they would go up again to where they were before the early 90's or at least match the regular pistol/revolver prices. Any thoughts?

No idea, but I have an estimated 51 minute wait time with the CFC. I just had to ##### while this music is driving me nuts.

Pricing will depend on how and if the 12(6) class disappears.

If there is a continued import ban, but those in country simply restricted, the price will skyrocket in time.

If there is no import ban, the prices will fall in line with the regular product lines.

basic economics and like any economist would say, "it depends"

Initially there will be a surge in demand as the market of shooters who can now buy these things will expand quite a bit. so prices wil rise.

but...

if they re-open up the border to imports there will be a much larger supply .

However the prices of a quality 12(6) in the US has gone up quite a bit since 1995 so by comparison the current high quality stock stock in Canada should not lose much as they will still be cheaper than a new one.

so i expect the price of a good quality SBH like Glock, S& W, etc will stay the same . the basic frame only stuff and low quality stuff I expect will drop to next to nothing if imports are allowed. stuff that has a high scarcity premium ie registered 12.6 versions of quality handguns of which there are only a few in the country- will either drop if imports are allowed in, or increase significantly because of many more potential buyers - if imports remain banned.

with the usual proviso that it depends on your assumptions...;)

JohnC: I agree with you. When it was first rumored that there would possibly be a 12(6) in the early 90's, the previous owner of Pheonix Range in Edmonton brought in lots of CZ 50 .32 cal from East Germany and sold them for 40 bucks each just so that we could have them grandfathered. He told me he sold close to 200 of them and basically didn't care if he made money just wanted the NFA members to have them. I bought 5 of them and they are really fun to shoot. Over the last 4 years I have purchased quite a few 12(6) pistols and revolvers from members or people that couldn't be bothered with them any more. When I go to the range with my son and one or two of his friends, it takes about 10 minutes and they are all trying the little short barreled toys. 12(6)'s have been selling for 100-300 on the board and slightly higher in the gun shops and my guess is that they will probably gain about 50% of there value over a short time because those that were not grandfathered will want to add them to there collection in case they ever get classed again. My 2 cents.

.

Lucky bastards, I never had a chance to be grandfathered.

As for the market, I would imaging that whatever became un-prohibited would be up to the standard price of a restricted pistol now. All glocks would be equal, depending on round count, wear and tear, and how well it was maintained. The snub nose revolvers and things like that I really dont know. I would guess they would increase over time upwards of the price of a decent revolver today. It all depends on the avaliability of the gun in question, what kind of shape it is in, and how well it was maintained.

Not like it really matters, do you honestly think they are going to un-prohibit anything? Not very likely.

I would love to see it, but I find it hard to believe 12(6) would go away. I could see them dropping this crap with the unlicensed, registered 12(6) owners, and grandfather them to keep their guns, because that really is ridiculous, and a huge waste of money fighting the court cases, but ... really, how do you sell to the public the idea of letting people have more compact handguns? The only reason the public supports killing the long gun registry is because of the cost ... is there really any additional cost to not letting people have 12(6) guns? Handguns are not exactly in favour with the sheeple these days, and didn't you know, compact ones are as much as 60% more likely to spontaneously murder babies!

Seriously, I would love to own a baby Glock, but perhaps it would make more sense to think about what tactics to use against 12(6), before speculating what you're going to buy once it's gone.

I was talking to the NFA guy a week ago at the range that I go to he confirmed that the CPC has talked to him about various changes to the long gun registry and how to streamline the pistol/revolver fiasco. It was suggested that the ATT would be a lifetime permit and no more POL's just PAL's. Still have to take the courses for the handguns but once it was done the designation would go on the lic. for lifetime and all handguns/revolvers would be included as one entity and not 12(6) and none 12(6) as it is now, basically the way it was before 1995 or so. Hope it happens soon.
