I've been looking around for a wool/quiet/windproof/waterproof parka and once again the Weatherby Wool Parka is the one I'm eyeballing. 28 oz. Heavyweight High Desert Brown. Fits all that I'm looking for and is in a quasi camo pattern. Not so sure on the size as it's largest size is XXL, no tall or ###L

Any reviews/opinion/owners out there? Can't find nothing on the internet.

Looking for a solid windproof wool jacket .......any other ideas?

Cabela's has a few but

Last year I was wearing my IECS jacket with my fleece overtop. Worked fine but would like to downgrade to just one jacket that does it all. Yes, I will be wearing layers underneath :)

What do you wear?

Be careful with wool as it will hold odors for a ling time. not a jab, but you are a smoker (so I've heard, maybe wrong?) and wool will soak up and hold that smell like a sponge and be very difficult to get it out. just a thought for consideration.

I don't wear any wool at all.I find layers of fleece with a goretex outer shellto be warmer and lighter than wool as well as being windproof and waterproof.

Nice jacket but I would also go with Gortex. I have a North Face Gortex winter parka and have never been wet or cold in it. Works great out in the boat in late oct. when conditions are cold and wet.
That new Gortex Scent Lock gear looks pretty cool, not sure if it works as well as its advertised but if you got lots of money you could test it out for us:D

Cheers!!

I don't smoke ......only when I'm about too sell someone a backpack do I take up the habit. Bring the backpack to my office (at the hospital) and chain smoke for 4 days in my office and exhale all over the pack.......then I sell it :D

It makes for wonderful excitement :beerchug:

I will most likely stick with my gore tex/fleece setup....kept my nice and toasty 2 years ago in the Cypress hills looking for my elk. Stupid hoar's frost

i wear a apiur of johnnys under a pair of jeans under a pair of mossy oak sweat pants for below the waist and a johnny type shirt under a t-shirt under a mossy oak camo jacket or blaze jacket above the waist for thew cold weather if its warm i just wear the camo with nuthing under it

I have that exact jacket in late season winter camo. Its a very warm jacket, plenty of pockets, heck of a hood and zips up nice and high to protect your face when the wind is howling, its just a bit heavy for everyday hunting use around here. I bought it for those days when it is minus 25 and a little extra weight is not an issue (great for wearing while on horseback). If a bunch of hiking is needed, I would not be wearing or wanting to pack this jacket around. IMHO. :)

I'd be looking for a quiet/windproof/waterproof SHELL of some sort without the wool part.

I like the option of being able to add or remove layers according to the weather. With wool, you're stuck with a "cold weather only" coat. Also, wool can be a bit of a hassle to clean, if the need arises.

Nester... That is some funny sh1t, I remember that incident...

Anyhow, back on topic... I LOVE wool for hunting... I can't speak to the jacket, but I always get to my stand, cool off and then don a fresh set of dry cloths and WOOL sweater...

I can literally sit all day in sh1tty weather with wool on...

Cheers

I envy some of you guys that can hunt with gortex or other such light waterproof/windbread material on the outside. Way too noisy where I hunt as you are constantly moving through thick brush. I use wool on the outside exclusively. Haven't found anything as quiet, although some of the high end brushed cammo stuff is probably pretty good. If I hunted in real cold weather much I'd probably give that weatherby jacket a look....
