Just getting back into the hunting scene, and would like to be prepared and put a pack together for spring bear. Anyone have any insight on necessity for a day pack ?

Rope, knife, hatchet, gloves, water bottle, wet wipes, toilet paper, range finder, extra ammo, chapstick, chemical hand/foot warmers, bug spray/thermocell, snack.

Some stuff is probably in my pockets...

bone saw, small ground sheet/tart, secound knife and sharpener, small bottle hand suds and rag, rain gear, h2o, granola bar or other snack, cheese cloth

in my waste fanny pack, i carry granola bars, paper towels, water, compass, knife sharpener, flashlight, disposable gloves, inhaler, lighter, flag tape, rope and spare gloves, and a pair of socks

I hunt from a ground blind so I carry a blind bag to/from the blind. In it I have tp, folding hunting knife, filet knife, spare gloves, spare ammo, headlamp, 2 bottles water, protein bar, shoulder length veterinary gloves, 20' length 3/8" rope, licenses, spare toque

Thanks for the input everyone ! Lots of stuff I would have overlooked or not thought of ! What do you figure a good pack weight would be roughly 10 pounds

Knife, hatchet, 20' paracord, lighter, head lamp, whistle, TP, hand sanitizer (can be used for fire starter), food, 1 litre stainless water bottle, leatherman multi tool, tarp extra ammo, bug spray, bandages

First aid kit, wet wipes and toilet paper, water purification kit, gps & compass, range finder, binos, headlamp, extra batteries, field dressing kit, nitrile gloves and ziplock bags, twist ties, folding hand saw, drag rope, tinder box, 3 piece rod and basic cleaning kit, snacks and water, wool gloves, foam sitting pad, tags and license, electronic ear pro, cleaning wipes for optics.

I add extras when needed like shears, game bags, rain gear, tarp as the situation warrants or it’s in my truck if I need it. Ramp in the bed of the truck, tow ropes and tie downs on the quad.

My general pack minus water weighs 10-11 pounds, so with extras it might be 12-15 pounds max.

Depends on what I am hunting at the time... but staples are flashlight and headlamp, knives (usually two), folding Sierra saw, pruning shears, space blanket, lighter & waterproof matches, windshear turtleneck, gloves, fleece face mask, socks, rangefinder, binoculars, water bottle, power bars and granola, often other odds and ends of food.

I have spent many unplanned nights comfortably (relatively), in the woods with only my standard daypack, had to do it twice this fall alone... one night was supplemented with grouse stew... the wild mushrooms sent me on a bit of a wild trip, must have dropped a psychotropic one in there.

Spare knife, flashlight, headlamp, extra batteries, butt wipe, lunch and snacks, knife sharpener, game shears, fire starter and tinder, extra ammo, extra pair of socks, rope, simple first aid supplies, bug dope if early season and flagging tape. Compass goes in jacket or vest pocket. Primary knife is on my belt. Gloves in jacket pockets as is cap or toque as extra headgear (often it's frigid in the morning but warms up substantially in the pm). Water is in bottles on waist pack. Sometimes I'll stuff my binos in there as well, or I'll have them around my neck. I think that about does it...

Extra pair of socks in a large zip lock bag. Nice to have when water goes over top of your boots, and you can put the heart in the zip lock bag to pack out with you.

thats a great idea i learned that the hard way hunting by prince rupert everything gets soaked

I carry a fanny pack and, admittedly, carry too much stuff. Here goes: simple first aid kit, tags, $20, flashlight, head lamp, camera, flagging tape, rope, twine, spare batteries for radio/gps, folding saw, pruning shears, range finder, soft gun case, knife sharpener, latex gloves, wool gloves, warm hat, lighter, multi-tool, doe in can call, small camera tripod, snacks. On my person, I carry a knife, ammo pouch, compass, gps, water, lunch, maps/air photos, TP, wet wipes, binos, grunt call,
