What does your .577 Snider like?

I'm looking for an idea about what weight of cast bullet works best in the Snider. I made up a mold that throws 350 gr and will try them soon. If they work fine, all well and good, but if not I can re-bore the mold making the bullets longer and heavier.

Looking for comments from those experienced with reloading for .577.

round balls and short conical's are the best in the 1 in 78" twist

I found that the Lee 0.600" Round Ball is a good choice.

I just started experimenting with mine and the Lee 60 cal round ball is grouping well with blackhorn 209. The balls weigh about 320 grains with soft lead.

id ditch that smokeless and get some real black powder or at least pyrodex RS blackhorn 209 is a smokeless BP equivalent sniders and smokeless is a no no

bullet weight is not as important as bullet length is this go's for every firearm

But the mil load of 480 over 80gr of black must have still been with in OAL. Watching close as I want to reload some for my rifle.

ok but what was the military bullet was it hollow based(making it longer then a solid base 480gr bullet) 3 groove sniders 1 in 78" it will perform better with a round ball or short conicals where 5 groove sniders have a 1 in 48" twist and will stabilize just about any bullet

now I have to go look at my rifling. No to sure what I have around in 58 to even try. Thanks for the advice.

Mine likes hollow base bullets with autobody bondo taking up the air space, over a duplex load of 60gr Fg black powder over 6gr HS6 over a CCI 250 magnum primer. I have a carbine that may not like this combination but it is just to nice to shoot.

I have a Snider with a badly pitted bore. It shoots well with a Lyman cast .562 round ball patched and loaded from the muzzle onto a blank cartridge which I make up with 70 grains of 2 F and some tightly wadded shop towel.

These work well in my 3band soft stick on ww 75gr ffg A mold I got from Bruno Gross years ago. Approx 450 gr.
