Does anybody know the FRT # and brand name for the Non-restricted FG-42's?

They made them in 8mm and .308. They were new builds, so repros.

I know they exist, but can no longer find the FRT.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just a heads up in case you are wanting one of these RIGHT NOW, SFRC has one in what looks like new condition on their used gun rack and not on the website! Not sure what caliber it is, but it is there waiting for the right person to happen along....

They look so cool and are surprisingly short!

Bring your wallet as it is the typical $10,000!!!

Give them a call!!! 613-372-2662

For what it's also worth, the last one that I remember seeing was at a dealer back east somewhere, about three, maybe four years ago. Rifle, six mags, repro scope and mount and I think the wooden transit crate. They started it at the $10,000 mark. Last I saw it before it sold they had dropped it to about $6,000.

I was waiting to see if they'd drop it to $5,000 before maxing out the credit card for it, but someone picked it up at the $6K mark.

Don't bother with the BD42 unless you plan to dewat it, a few of the found problems:
Barrel not torqued into receiver
Sear not hardened
Firing pin not round-bound in channel as it rotated
Pistol grip sides flexes, causing trigger group to bind and shift.
Bayonet latch failed - lost bayonet
Front sight assembly fell off...

Unfortunately I can go on...

The 308 version is a US produced rifle with no FRT and the company will not export.

The FRT rifle is the German rifle discussed above.

It's almost like this SSD FG42 is made by the same company that made my BD44... ;)

That's my gun on the shelf, it's not for sale.

Are you talking about the BD42 model 1 or 2? My 42 model one works great.

The 2008-vintage Sport System Dietrich FG42s are Type I, or the angled pistol grips. They are 8mm Mauser. These guns were essentially handmade, and every one seems to have its own personality.

The firing pins don't always hit the primers hard enough. Neither commercial or military work more than half the time. Another problem they have extremely stiff magazine springs, which means a lot of the energy to move the parts forward is used up stripping off the next round.

What are they worth? The list price when they arrived in Canada was over $10k. Supply and demand. If a collector wants one to fill a notch in the collection, it is worth whatever it is worth. As an experiment, when the LGR was shut down, www.gank.ca had six Prohibited FG42 rifles in museums and one in a private collection, and eleven Nonrestricted BD42s at businesses and homes.

BD42 = Type I FG42 - minus the ejector that wears easily (mine needed replacement) and the firing pin (which was designed to only work on commercial ammunition) mine works fine. SSD was even willing to sell a longer firing pin for military primers but use would void their non-existent warranty.

BD44 = MP44 - well good luck

BD(h)42 = Mkb42h - well good luck

SSD did make a Type II but there are none that I know of in the country.

As per the US made variant - good luck. I even helped with some development in the early stages of development with the G43 forum was still a thing...unless you pay and do all their export paperwork it will never happen.
