Struggling with a claim this is original finish. 100 years old.

What do you-all see here from these limited pics? I cannot match them up to any other original finish rifle pics I can find out there?

Thanks for the opinions.

I get the sense seller is not too studied on this, but is repeating what he may have been told.

Also: Appears first time lister. I am being very cautious. Looking for a phone chat, additional pics, sellers knowledge of the history of the thing, seller's general knowledge. And maybe find and pay someone in sellers' area to put eyes on the rifle.

I'm not convinced it's original, either. Appears to have been refinished. Wood furniture shows some signs of age and use, that don't match the fresher look of the metal. Which seems too smooth, and without even any minor scratches, which should be present. Like on the wood.
Some dishing apparent around the screw holes. Also, overall metal finish looks uneven and splotchy. Flat in appearance and lacking the deep, even luster of good blacking. Which should still be apparent. Especially poor finish, on receiver. Looks more like poorly applied cold blue. Loading port cover shows little to no signs of use and also appears to have been refinished/re-blued. Finger lever, too. Plus, barrel.
It may be an old rifle. But, in my less than expert opinion, hardly in original condition.
What is the seller asking for it? What caliber?

I just picked up a 56 year old Model 88. First thing I looked at was the lever finish wear. With Winchesters or Marlins: lever wear, top of hammer, loading gate, muzzle. The finish on this one appears too "fresh" for sure. Though would be easier to see in person! How about asking the seller to send you a closeup video of it?

And this is the type of picture we need , not something that you have to blow up 20x and them all the detail is gone.
It don't look correct to me, stock looks touched up as well.
All the edges like too even/ black.
depends on the price I guess ,if its priced as VG orignal or better, I would have to see in hand or a return if not satisfied.

Londonshooter's photo illustrates exactly what even a well-used, worn original finish should look like. Despite all the wear and scratches, the blacking is very deep, lustrous and evenly aged.
Thanks for sharing.

Rack Grade: Good catch. Huge red flag, with this one. Based on your latest info, this smells like a scam. These seem to be popping up quite a bit, lately. Ammo and reloading stuff, etc.

With the British Pound currently sitting at just under $2.00 Canadian($1.81)....this junker is wildly overpriced...to put it mildly. .Putting lipstick on this pig won't make it any more than what it is.

Scammer must have been looking for an easy mark. Won't fool anyone with even a cursory knowledge of antique rifles.
