anyone ever tried bee wax on these kind of stock?
I don't want a glossy finish but want to protect it against rain. Maybe some polishing with bee wax could do

If no previous finish. try coating stock with minwax waterbased pre-stain and let dry completely. then try fiebing's leather dye--medium brown applied lightly to define your color. then finish with deft marine teakwood finish. marine finish is better than other finishes, in that it goes into the wood and doesn't stay on top of the wood, like other finishes.
These are both Boyd's walnut stocks. The one with more fiddleback came with a very dark stain which was mostly sanded off, the other was unfinished. They were both given many coats of Tung oil.

I re-used all the Norc metal, no need to buy any new stuff if you're careful with the salvage job.
