Mossberg 715T 16.25" barrel, non-restricted (verified by phone call to RCMP)
M&P 15-22 16" barrel, restricted

What gives? Does anyone know why this is ?

18.5" and less is apparently only for center-fire, so why then are these two rifles segregated?

M&p uses an ar15 style lower/upper so it's classed the same as an ar mosberg is a single peice

Yet the M&P splits like an AR. However the pins are in different locations. I love the M&P but being restricted I went with the Mossy. I've owned both carry handle and flat top. Funny thing is it shoots fantastic for such a small price. You could own two mossys for the price of one competitor rifle and still be able to shoot it places other than a range.
I then went with the Su-22. Shoots ok but folds and takes larger mags. Also is NR and lower is swappable with the SU-16 .223

Get the M715T , you honestly won't regret it.

I just shot mine, got the flattop... why get a 15-22??? To shoot paper? oh what fun. NOT

Get a M715T, shoot on land... make good targets, most fun you'll have with ur cloths on, buddy.

There is a pistol variant of the M&P 15-22 that uses the same magazines and the RCMP didn`t want people being able to use the high capacity mag in the pistol , this is what I was told was the reason for the restricted classification of the M&P

I believe they consider the M&P 15-22 a variant of the AR because the trigger group, pistol grip and rear stock are all interchangeable with the AR.

I belive it is because of the rear charging handle. lots if NR guns use the same grips handgaurds and butstocks as the AR some even are 2 peice some use the same trigger group but i have not seen a NR gun yet with a rear charging handle. somthing bad must happen when rear charging handles are pulled.

Wasn't this a separate issue? When they first came out they were restricted, but with full cap mags. Then someone brought to their attention the fact that the mags were the same for the "pistol". Then the neutering began. I could be wrong, this is the internet haha.

Or, maybe the contradiction of the 15-22 simply blew a fuse at RCMP Central: a restricted rimfire with an unrestricted mag capacity. Too many variables, we better shut this thing down!
