Hey guys,
Just snooping around and trying to find a scope for my dad. Would be nice to replace the Elcan on the Classic green, cheek-weld isn't great and height over bore is ridiculous.

What are you guys using? I tried looking through the different threads but could only figure out the following:

- Elcan
- Falcon Menace
- Trijicon Accupoint (not sure which model)
- S&B shortdot (not sure but it looked like it on the picture)
- Millet (don't know which model either)
- Night force
- etc

Short Dot would look pretty good on the Classic green, are the adjustments any good for the upcoming season?

Any recommendations? pros and cons of what you're using and what you've used.

Thanks,
Alex

I am running a Falcon Menace 1.5-5 on my AR and it meets my current needs.
There is a review of this scope in the optics section. IMO, this scope is good to go, especially for the money.

I use a Nightforce 2.5x10x24 in a larue or ADM recon mount -but I use the snap on cheek piece for the butt on the SA. I'd do the same with the Elcan as it is designed to sit atop a flat-topped AR.

NF 1-4x24, wouldn't trade it for any other optic for the SAN carbine, 2.5-10 may be better for the classic green 24 looks better as its a bit smaller than the 32 but 32 is nice too. For close the 1-4 works almost as well as a red dot, field of view is excellent, holds absolute zero, super clear glass, great eye relief, no complaints from me and 4 power still enough for 300 yards, more would be better but 4 works.

I just traded one of my Aimpoints for a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 w/mildot reticle. I'll be putting it on my 180 (when I get rings for it...).

Shot a Falcon Menace in Service Conditions last season, can't complain. Proved to be dependable for elevations, no problems emerged.
For CQB I just picked up a Bushnell Trophy 1-4 , brand new, for $166 tax in. Absolutely no tactikewl factor, but looks to be a decent 30mm tube scope. Adjustments are standard hunting rifle style, wouldn't be the best for the elevation shifts in Service Rifle. If should be just fine for 100m and in. Reticle is four bars with a center dot, which illuminates red, if desired. Going to install it on a carbine upper I'm just assembling. Its not tactikewl either - no rails, bells, whistles or bobble headed dolls. Did put a good brake on the muzzle though.

I'm starting to lean this way, what rings do you use to mount it? is your carbine a flat top? Would you mind sharing some pics? :D

I have a Gen IV Elcan, a Specter DR, and I just ordered a Millet DMS-1 today to try out.

I have a 1-4X Leupy VX-II that I had retrofitted with target turrets that'll do in a pinch too.

Of these, my preference is actually (for now) the original Gen IV Elcan.

*shrug* It's worked well for me, and it's a match to my service issue rifle and optic which is important to me for practice purposes.

ive just ordered myself a DMS-1 for my m14 aswell. i had one a while back on my .22 and sold it ( which i regret ) .. there is also a Burris scope, similar style to the DMS-1 with a similar reticle, but it also has BDC for the .223 round

I'm going to be mounting the DMS-1 in an Armalite 30mm riser base, and I'll do a side-by-each comparison between the four scopes I listed. Gimme a couple weeks...I have to wait for the DMS to show up first.

Installed one on a friend's carbine last summer. Quite a decent sight. Needed to set it foreward a bit because of eye relief. The elevation adjustment would work for service conditions, with care. Some dabs of colour would help with fast elevation changes. For CQB this would not be an issue.

Here is the carbine upper, on the lower of the rifle I use for Service Conditions. DPMS Lo-Pro upper, tubular carbine length handguard, mid-length gas tube, Smith Enterprises brake. The Bushnell Trophy 1-4 is mounted using a riser and 30mm rings. Once the index pin is installed, and the gas port drilled, I'll be able to test the set up.

Well,

My DMS-1 scope arrived today, and it's now mounted up in the EX-0022 30mm scope riser/base on my HBAR.

It feels like a *solid* piece of gear. That's a pleasing start.

Fits well within the mount, and I think I have decent enough eye relief.

I'm going to get a series of side-by-side pics and do a full review up. Alas, it shan't be this weekend, as I'm playing "daddy" all weekend with the wife out of town.

Perhaps late in the day Sunday....we'll see.

More to follow, and I'll do a seperate thread up with full details on my testing.
