Curious to know what got into airguns?

Me, started with them as a kid (old Slavia break barrel and a Daisy Powerline when I was old enough)...
Then gave it up for the longest time - Jobs/Women/Life got in the way...

Kind of got back into it 20 years ago shooting air pistol. First as a training aid for bullseye and than as another "event" to shoot while going to a match.
Next thing you know, we move out to the edge of no-where and the closest range is 1:30H away... Not only are there no bullseye league, the closest "match" are 4-5H away...

So started to mostly shoot AP, to mix things up again figured I'd get a rifle... over the last 8 years, about 95% of my trigger time is probably with airguns.
With the current confinement, shooting a few targets every day is a good way to cheer me up

I made a wooden skateboard deck back in the 70's and traded it to a friend for a broken European air rifle. I made a new seal from a leather blue jean label and that got me started. Always liked shooting guns, and airguns were a way to do it in the basement. Had great competitions with my dad in the basement using a pistol.

Shot a break barrel as a kid and I like target shooting and shooting crows and magpies. An air rifle is a perfect fit.

No other choice. If you were in a semi-urban location in Britain when I was a kid that was all you had as a choice in the shooting sports.

Teaches you all you need to know about safe handling and marksmanship. Try humanely dispatching a rabbit at 40 yards on a windy day with .22 break action rifle limited to 12 ft Ibs.

Candocad.

Same as others, slavia .177 for Christmas when I was 6, terrorized empty Nestle chocolate powder cans.
Got back into it for partridge during the season. Also, put use for irritating birds when we're trying to sleep at 4:30 in the morning (had to declare jihad on them)
.

My dad bought us air guns when we were on a family trip when I was like 12, that got me sort of interested in shooting. Now that I work in the firearms industry and love shooting it's helping me stay tuned up during these uncertain times.

My parents surprised me with an air rifle for Xmas at age 4. Supervised only, until I was older, more responsible. Dad cut the butt off that rifle to fit me and cocked it for me until I was stronger. A thick phone book for a backstop. Those were the days when kids could walk down the road carrying air rifles and nobody cared. My brother and I got firearm safety ground into us from day one. And also the strict rule that if you kill it, you eat it. So we didnt dare shoot song birds lol !

What got me into airgun? Recently? Covid-19 and social distancing. A closed gun club.

More to the heart of the matter.. a half price sale plus free shipping on a Daisy 953C from the Gun Dealer!

As of this morning, he has 5 left in stock.

Got into it through a friend, who's big time into it.

Where I live, I can't legally discharge a firearm, so an airgun was perfect for taking out pests and shooting at my makeshift shooting range in a desert wash just beyond my backyard. At my previous place, I had steel targets from 120 yards to ~273 yards that I would shoot with my airguns.

My new place doesn't have the ability to setup targets as far, but I'm looking at a potential spot to place a target at ~200 yards from my house. Going to walk it today with the dog to see if it's a viable spot.

Airguns are a lot of fun, and great practice for real firearms. I love that I can now shoot on my property, getting trigger practice in. May even shoot the EBR comp in Phoenix this fall.

That would be awesome. If you do, please post a thread on it.

Will do!

I just need to get my Taipan Veteran ready to go. I haven't tested the RD monsters at 100 yards but at 120 yards they shoot like a shotgun. Just tried today at 160 yards, and it was same results.

Ordered a high power spring for my veteran, which supposedly adds ~80-120 fps. Maybe that will get them moving fast enough.

I really want to use the RD Monsters, but I have to get them shooting reliably. Otherwise I'm stuck with using the 18 grain Diabolos, unless I find something else that's heavier and shoots good.

I grew up around firearms. My older brothers each had a pellet rifle to learn proper firearms safety and proper gun handling. It was also teaching you to be responsible. I couldn’t wait to be old enough to get my own pellet rifle. One Christmas, I was 8, there was a Slavia 22 caliber waiting for me. Then, we could shoot in our backyard. It taught me a lot about marksmanship. It had quit the trajectory, you could see the pellet fly and correct for your second shot. I always had a pellet rifle/pistol around, cheap and fun to shoot. Regretted selling some of them. I haven’t been shooting one for quite awhile. With what is going with the pandemic, I am thinking I should dust them off and have plain shooting fun practicing on tin cans.
