what gun should I choose?

I'm very new, and am looking for an all around deer/elk gun. I got a small 4x4 white tail with a savage 300 wsm. I would like a gun that is not expensive but something that I would be happy with for a long time. What would you experts suggest to this rookie?

I'd start with a .22 it's cheaper to start since you will not be hitting much at first. :D

Then something like this to get started the 30-06 is a good starter doesn't make you wince the first shot and it's really easy to find Ammo for it. Plus it'll take anything in North America

I only suggest trade ex because I'm happy with my two purchases from them.
I got a .22 Repeater and a M96 off them and in two years I have had zero problem with either not related to the user

But before that check your areas hunting regs it depends in your seasons if you would be better served by a muzzle loader or shotgun. Your saying Elk so I assume your not in Southren Ontario.

just about anything in 308 will do the job - same deal for 06, and unfortunately, there's a school of thought that says you NEED a 338 win mag and 250 grain solids for elk- i happen to disagree with that- 308/180s will do all that's necessary and then some, if you PLACE YOUR BULLET PROPERLY- main thing is to get some quality trigger time and not just on the range, unless your range is out doors
