Just wondering what you guys have in rifle rebores, from what cal to another and any reason why and any probs afterwards ?
I had a Winchester 100 in 308 done to 358.I Got it done as I liked the 358 cal and didn't want to carry any of my 88's in 358 incase they got damaged. There was a prob with mine after a yr or so and thought it was the rifle as it wouldn't pick up the next shell sometimes but found out the action was able to move in the stock even when everything was tight.I tried it in another stock and no probs then so the original stock is going for a bedding job.The gas pressure is about the same in both 308 & 358 so nothing had to be done there and with both cals using the same casing there wasn't any mag probs. It's up and running like a charm and that's all I carry any more.I'm going to have one done in the 88 as well when the timing is right.
Lets hear what you guys have had done, from one cal to another ,any probs and why you had it done.
Thanks, 88

I have had a number of rebores done over the years: two Model 94s in 30-30 to 38-55, a 308 Win to 358 Win, and a 270 to 9.3X62.

The rebore to 9.3 was especially neat. A pre-war Model 70 that had been severely neglected, both the bore and the chamber were pitted. The rebore gave me a new bore and a new chamber! :) The larger diameter chamber with the shoulder farther ahead than the 270 completely cleaned up the old pitted chamber.

My hunting buddy had Ron Smith rebore a Husqvarna in 7mm Rem Mag to 358 Norma. Had it done with a gain twist. The rifle is exceptionally accurate and gets 2900 fps with 250 spitzers. It is a hammer!

I also had Ron rebore an 1899 Savage from 303 Savage to 38-55.
-Problem one, I knew before hand the 303 savage case was 13 thou bigger at the head of the case but for some reason forgot and had him do the job promising my numbers would all work out.
-Problem two, feeding The rotary mag needs alot of mods to hold the larger cartridges.

Thank goodness this rifle was a piece of junk when I got it so I did not ruin a true collector piece. It is a bubba fest.

I had a .25-06 rebored to .35 Whelen and shot quite a few animals with it. The only problem that I have with it is I never really got it to feed reliably. My gunsmith told me to bring it back to him (for the 5th time) and he said he would play with it until he got it feeding properly. If I were to get another custom bolt action done, I would have it built on a Mauser action rather than a pushfeed. I'm currently planning on having a Ruger Number 1 .338 Win Mag rechambered and rebored to .358 Norma Mag. I'm just waiting for my gunsmith to have time to do it. My .35 Whelen took about 8 months before he got to it.
