Figured the precision shooters would know this best.

I am getting a bipod for my birthday. Looking at some from sponsors here (and others).

Just need guidance on height. Mostly bench shooting, and prone at the range (flat), but need it to work for gophers and coyotes on occasion.

I am a bit robust is size, and thick through my chest.

7-9 inches
or
9-12 inches

Thanks.

For bench shooting , prob. the 6-9" buy you'll find it short for prone.

I had a 6-9" for my 13 yrear old & he found that even at 9" it was too low while prone. Now I'm looking at the 9-13".

I don't know if you are shooting coyotes in the snow or not. But here in SK I like the 13-27 for shooting coyotes prone in the snow . Sometimes you need a liitle more height to get up over it. But it's way to long for bench work. But for if it's just for bench work and gophers go with the 9-12.

The local vegetation and terrain dictate everything. If you are shooting flat off an elevated surface, then probably the measurements given would apply. However, if the grass is tall and the shape of the ground (or the firing points) block the target, you need something higher. In the working sniper realm, there are guys who shoot sitting with a collapsing camera tripod and a saddle. Whatever works.

9-13 for sure. I had the short Harris and didnt like it while out in the field, bench it was fine. I just picked up a 9-13 and it is much more enjoyable to use while on the ground.
