I have a Winchester model 255 22 magnum in lever action I just picked up and a friend has what he calls a 22 magnum but his reads a 22 W M R. I was reading one of the forums that someone was having problems with only getting a 10" group and it was said he had the wrong ammo, and that there was a difference in 22 W M R & 22 MAG. Can someone tell me the diff. I can't find anything where I'm looking.

The poor accuracy might have been caused by him using .22lr in a .22 WMR. Maybe the gun he had just didn't like the ammo too. I've had that happen with certain brands of .22lr ammo in my Ruger 10/22.
Oh, and if you come across a rifle that says .30 WCF., that means .30 Winchester Center Fire, which is what the .30-30 was originally called by Winchester.

In some cases yes, in other cases no. It has a heavier bullet, but it doesn't shoot nearly as flat, and it drifts more in the wind than the 17HMR. For smaller game, the 17HMR has the advantage, especially at longer ranges, but for larger game at close ranges, the 22WMR has the advantage.
