I'd like to know. I know many people say acraglas jell is good, you can use die to stain and match the wood. JB weld is what some others use.
Then marine tex is also used.

What would be a good product I can buy in canada?

I need a small amount because I don't have very many guns to bed right now.

Acraglass gel is the easiest to use (50:50 mix) and comes with brown and black dyes (for wood stocks use the black dye as it looks like woodgrain). I've used JB Weld and it works but doesn't seem to set as hard as acraglas to me , but is easy to get and again easy to mix. I've also used Devcon steel putty 10110 and it seems to have the hardest finish but is more difficult to mix and for best results components should be weighed. Its not typically found in most hardware stores but specialty industrial suppliers like Acklands and Motion industries carry them. Good luck on your project.

Marine tex is so hard you can drill and tap it once hard but like JB weld harder to finish.

I like Marine Tex. No matter what you use be sure to get the mix by weight. Acraglass gel is 90:100, marinetex is 15.5:100, I think by memory. Brownells will not give this info but there are ways around that.

I've used Devcon and JBWeld on all of my bedding projects. Maybe the Devcon is 'harder" but honestly I'm not sure a thin layer of epoxy is really going to make a difference practically. I have a bedding project upcoming for the winder which I will be using JB weld- it has worked well enough for me, easy to get and cheap. The reality is that any epoxy is basically just plastic and therefore has similar mechanical properties to wood anyway. Bedding is just making the interface between the stock and receiver "perfect" to promote consistency, not about adding strength.

If you want to practice- I got a cheapo springer air rifle to use as my first bedding project. It will give you a feel for what you are trying to do and help to not make a mess of things (and even if you do make a mess of it- it is just a cheapo springer...). Good luck! I'm sure your projects will turn out great with some care.

Marine Tex if you'd prefer to pour.
AccraGlas Gel if you'd prefer to use a spoon/tongue depressor.

Pitch the modelers clay for plugging holes etc...

Use Silly Putty to plug holes-no release agent required w/putty!!!!

Any epoxy based resin will work. Acraglas is just epoxy with fillers to make it more of a putty. It is quite handy if you don't want to roll your own.

I use G2 epoxy and west system fillers, either microfibers or silica depending on the application. The nice thing about mixing your own is you can get the right viscosity for application.

As to colouring ... any wood shop that supplies resin/epoxies for "river tables" or crap like that will have dyes that are compatible

So depends on how much you have to do (an how often you need epoxy for other purposes) $45 for acraglas is pretty good if you only have one project, You would be looking at around $120 for G2, a filler and dye ... but could also do probably close to 30 guns ... and still have enough epoxy left over to glue other crap together.

A head's up - when I retired, I bought a pound of Devcon plastic steel putty and a pound of the runny stuff - figured I would be set for the duration - discovered that they ARE NOT KIDDING about that expiry date on the back of the box. One or other of the components - the resin (?) - was set up virtually solid, a year past the expiry.

An acquaintance discovered small one to two ounce tubes of JB Weld in his local Canadian Tire store - was about perfect amount for many bedding jobs that he did - always start with fresh stuff - he would toss small amount left over. But neither he nor I have found a dye that works in either JB Weld or Marine Tex White - certainly the Brownell brown and black dye for Acraglas have virtually no colouring effect - even dripping 10 drops into 15 ml's of those epoxies. I did not try more drops - was concerned that the dye would be weakening the epoxy matrix?? For sure, one drop of that dye into 15ml of Acraglas is about all that is needed.

This is 100% true when using epoxy based resins .. the recommendation I believe is < 2% VIA weight.

Though the dyes I use have so much pigment in them even 1/2 a drop is more than enough!

I have not had it go bad ... the current bottles I have are probably about a year old, the last ones were around ~maybe~ 2. by "bad" you mean like the economy 5 minute epoxy from crappy tire? crystalizes around the caps?

No - have not seen it do that. but you can buy it in smaller amounts as well.
