What is a good magnification?

What type of shooting? For tactical type matchs the real high magnification can be a PITA. For punching paper the more the better.....if it's quality. I would rather have a max of 10X in a real quality scope than 24X in a lesser quality scope.

Some F class guys are shooting 36X bumped up to 50X. How and what they see through the mirage is beyond me. I get sea sick looking through a 22X spotting scope on those heavy mirage days. With your 8.5-25X50 you can at least dial it down when you need to.

I run a 5-25X56mm S&B.................I usually keep the magnifaction between 10X and 15X.................... I find 12X is a good all around setting for me out to 600 meters..............
