Hi all,
any opinions on whats a good new semi with a stock that can be adjusted for drop and cast with shims?? I would prefer wood stock, but if somethings good it doesnt matter too much.
Thanks

Browning and Winchesters come with shim kits as well. Can change the rise or drop of comb and cast off left or right.

So did these guns fit you guys pretty well before you changed shims maybe needing just a little adjjustment, or are they enough to make any brand fit?
I'm wondering because I had a Weatherby that I liked but was very hard for me to find the right sight and it seemed way out for me.

No I find with my Winchester I still need more drop at comb and more angle on the butt pad. It works good for hunting but for sport shooting not so well. The Rem 870 I have has more drop at comb and fits me better. I have a long neck so I need that extra drop so the gun shoulders properly. Even with the max drop shim on the Winchester SX3 I still need another 1/8 to 3/16 lower. But when I can afford to get the stock adjusted I will. Because the gun was far superior to what Remington offered.

The shim kits for Winchester can move 1/16 to 1/8 in all directions from neutral. Comes with like 5 or 6 shims.

I'd reccomend finding the gun that fits the best before you worry about the shims.

I can't speak for any brand or how they might fit another person but for me the Beretta shims make my 391s fit like custom guns. :)

x2 for my Benelli and the shim kit. Shotgun fit better than others at the store so I got it. Then I monkeyed around with the shims for all of the different adjustments and now it feels like it was built for me. Pull it up to my should quickly and I have a perfect sight picture. You can change them around too depending on how many layers you wear during hunting season vs summer clays.

This thread actually inspired me to go take out my gun and play with the shims. I added an extra shim to drop the comb even further and now it fits way better. Only issue is the stock doesn't fully insert into the receiver but it's held by the trigger group. I'll see if it shifts at all when I shoot it.

But like we said any of the quality synthetic guns come with shims but even the Winchester wood stocked guns now come with shims.

I purchased my Beretta Xcel online. When it arrived the sight picture was way off base for my cheek and hold. Out of the box it felt like it was setup for a shooter with a low, chubby cheek bone. My cheek is high and slender. I had to combine both the shims together to get the stock raised up and cast toward my cheek, and now it fits great and shoots great as well. If I had shoulder this gun in the store I probably would have passed on it because the fit was out to lunch. But buying online forced me to take ownership and find a way to make it fit. Beretta really seems to have a good system and knows each shooter will need something different.
