What is a Mauser converted to .308 worth?

If its one of those nazi guns then its worth nothing obviously. Or anything from Germany really. Lol.

Your question lacks all the pertinent info.

What's a car with a v8 worth?

As has been said, more info needed. A K98k German rifle converted by the Israeli's around $500 if it's in decent shape. A 1912 South American, a little less in my area. That's in original military trim. If sportered(stock cut down, different sights etc.) around $250-$300. If it is a true custom Mauser sporter(unlikely) with fancy steel work and stock, a lot more. Most guys building a truly fancy Mauser sporter don't go with the .308 chambering.

You buying or selling?
"...a Mauser converted to .308..." Not all of 'em are converted rifles. For example, FN made a bunch of K98's for Israel in /308/7.62NATO.

Spanish short rifle in 7.62 NATO in original shape ~$400, less if bubbaed.

I don't think all Spanish Mausers are converted, if I'm not mistaken mid fifties Spanish-made could be in 7.62NATO original.

They can be, but that's a difficult question.

There are a wide variety of rifles from the 1891, 1895, 1916 Short Rifles to the fifties FR7 and FR8.
Also in at least 3 different calibres and manufactured in Oberndorf, La Coruna, Oviedo; possibly places I can't remember.

So it's a bit difficult to say what quality an individual rifle is.

Some of the Spanish Mausers converted to 7.62 were done on pre 98 mauser actions(1895 vintage) and some consider the action marginal in strength for the conversion. Plus there is a 7.62 CETME round that some Spanish rifles were chambered in. Pretty much identical to the 7.62 Nato but loaded to lower pressure. Someone may correct me if I'm mistaken, not really up on Spanish Mausers.

You really need to post up some pics of provide us with more info. Some of the Spanish Mausers would be fine others could potentially have problems.

What model do you have???

I would avoid 308 in any of the military conversions.

Simply google "308 versus 7.62 Nato pressure differences" and you will find a wealth of information on the subject and what you should know with older military conversions.

So if I was to put .308 Winchester through it would i have problems?

The whole .308 vs 7.62x51 nato being different is mostly not true. The ONLY difference is the milspec 7.62 uses thicker brass and there are different pressure systems (cup vs PSI) used to measure each. The problem with converted Mausers is that a lot of the non 98 actions had a sleeve soldered in to rechamber the rifle. This is unsafe in ANY caliber. If it is a 98 style action than I would say go ahead. These would include the Israeli, Chilean, and I think some Norwegian (although the Norwegian may be only 30-06). I shot commercial .308 in a Chilean 98 I had with no problems and the brass showed no ill-effects.

Here is a 1895 Chilean converted to 308

It says 7.62 on the side. I have not shot it but was told you can shoot either NATO 7.62 or .308. I guess if it is stamped 7.62 that's what I should buy.
